A title shot could be at stake if either Charles Oliveira or Beneil Dariush finish spectacularly here. That’s what the UFC is banking on in this co-main event in UFC 289 on Saturday and the UFC lines support it. The totals are favored to go under 2½ rounds and slightly for Dariush. Thus, he could be a lucrative UFC pick as an underdog.
Will Dariush Finally Break Through?
Dariush can match Oliveira wherever the fight goes. The longtime UFC veteran is finally on the cusp of a title shot. He’s won eight straight fights and appears ready to get over the hump. The Assyrian-American has long been a contender but went through a few bumps in his career.
He went through a two-year winless streak (0-2-1) and typically struggled against other contenders. But that hasn’t been the case recently as he soundly defeated Tony Ferguson and Mateusz Gamrot, the latter as a 2-1 underdog. If Dariush has any “flaws”, it could be that he has a tendency to enter “danger zones”.

Because he’s a sharp kickboxer, Dariush will trade with other strikers. And because he’s a three-time World No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu champion, he is more than willing to engage Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu players on the mat. Should he try to capture UFC news by finishing Oliveira, Dariush is gambling a high-risk high-reward scenario. But it might just pay off.

Oliveira and Dariush are around the same and build. Dariush is a few months older while Oliveira has a two-inch reach advantage. They’re both 5-foot-10. A key difference here is in their stance: Dariush is a southpaw while Oliveira is an orthodox striker.
