Ortega Slight Choice Over Equally-Dangerous Rodriguez
The UFC is not messing around in its return to ABC. Featherweights Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez should make an explosive main event, with UFC odds siding with Ortega. He is hungry to get a rematch against Alexander Volkanovski, while Rodriguez could finally get a title shot with an impressive win in this match.
Brian Ortega has only lost twice in his MMA career. These came at the hands of the two champions: Max Holloway and Volkanovski. Against the latter, he nearly had him with a guillotine choke but the champ was just too tough. Ortega is just 31 years old and still growing as a fighter.

The Californian started out mainly as a grappler but has since become one of the division’s best strikers. He shut out Chan Sung Jung, a knockout artist, becoming the first to knock out Frankie Edgar. Ortega can be hard to fight on the feet due to his ability to change tactics.
He hasn’t fought in nearly a year, so Ortega could be even more improved after his loss to Volkanovski. Ortega didn’t slink away following his beating against Holloway. Instead, he took his lessons and improved. If he continues, he’s a lucrative bet online at these odds.
Rodriguez Never Counted Out
Young and growing. If we can say that about Ortega, the same can be said for Rodriguez. The Mexican is just 29 and has not been in a lot of wars. Hee’s also eaten his fair share of humble pie. For him, it was a beatdown by Frankie Edgar. Since then, Rodriguez has only lost to Holloway in a fight where he had his moments.
As an unorthodox fighter, Rodriguez is as unpredictable as they come. It’s a gift and a curse. In the sportsbook, he’s not trustworthy as a favorite, nearly losing to Alex Caceres and Jung as a favorite, but was one round off from stunning Holloway as a 5-1 underdog.
Rodriguez has won via head kicks, upward elbows, and triangle chokes. Wherever the fight goes, he’s dangerous. However, he still needs to find a way to best the best of the division, and it starts with Ortega.
Ortega vs Rodriguez Head-to-Head
Rodriguez is taller and longer than Ortega, taller by three inches and with two-inch advantage in reach. Both fighters land over four significant strikes per minute, but Rodriguez only absorbs four in return while Ortega absorbs a whopping 6.7.

Ortega vs Rodriguez Prediction
Going by the Fightmetric stats, it’s scary to bet on Ortega. Over his history, he has been too hittable, He has won fights he was losing, however. Shelve most of these, as Ortega has become a much better striker in recent fights. He outstruck Jung, 127-62. Volkanovski cleaned his clock, but the champ is tiers above Rodriguez as a foe.
Ortega is prohibitive chalk because of the weaknesses Rodriguez possesses. He’s not a power puncher. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him hurt Ortega with a spinning backfist or flying knee. We still favor Ortega, He’s a much more advanced striker than Rodriguez. At these odds, he may be the card’s best UFC Fight Night bet.
