Chandler Is All About Guts and Glory

When the UFC paid a hefty price to sign Chandler over from Bellator, it knew what it was getting: one of the most entertaining title contenders in the 155-pound division. In just four fights with the promotion, Chandler already has three performance bonuses. His two wins are highlight reel knockouts and his two losses came after a Fight of the Night type of scrap.

But as far as betting online is concerned, Chandler may be hard to trust even at underdog money. The former three-time Bellator champion has a suspect chin as Michael Bisping says and his defense is not that great.

Chandler has a tendency to absorb one too many strikes. He eats 4.87 significant strikes per minute in order to land 5.17. That’s not a great ratio considering three of his seven pro losses have come via TKO. His bout with Charles Oliveira is a perfect sample of his fights tend to play out as he gave and received damage.

Poirier Is Never in a Boring Fight

Like Chandler, Poirier also has a habit of getting into wild brawls. After all, the Louisiana native is known to fans as one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC’s history. Under his name are seven Fight of the Night awards and the most knockout wins in the UFC’s lightweight division: eight.

But unlike Chandler, Poirier’s chin and striking defense are better. Since getting knocked out by Michael Johnson, Poirier has fought through the likes of Conor McGregor and Justin Gaethje. He not only won but outslugged them.

Poirier absorbs 4.28 significant strikes per minute with a 53% defense. Fighters like Chandler are welcome to try and crack his chin. But it’s Poirier, with a 50% knockout-to-win ratio, who does the cracking.

Poirier vs Chandler Head-to-Head

Poirier will be the lankier fighter against Chandler as he sports an inch advantage in height and reach. He primarily fights southpaw as opposed to Chandler’s orthodox stance. The favorite is also three years younger than Chandler.

Poirier vs Chandler Betting Lines

Poirier vs Chandler Prediction

On paper, this fight should be a barn-burner. But that may not be how it plays out as Chandler, once he feels Poirier’s power, will suddenly become an NCAA Division I wrestler again. But Poirier will be ready and keep the fight standing long enough to beat Chandler.

The line is quite long on Poirier though he may make for a nice parlay piece. Alternatively, betting the ‘over’ on the total at 1½ rounds is the best UFC bet here as both men should gut it out to a decision or a late finish.
