Sandhagen to Turn Back Yadong as Division’s Top Gatekeeper

Sandhagen at Decent Line vs Song

Cory Sandhagen fights Song Yadong in a potential bantamweight title eliminator at UFC Fight Night. Sandhagen has fallen short against the three men in the title picture but he’s beaten everyone else. Yadong is a fast-rising prospect that is on the cusp of title contention if he can blast past Sandhagen. The UFC betting lines favor “The Sandman” to turn back Song, though not too widely.

Only Elite Can Beat Sandhagen

After winning his first five UFC fights, Sandhagen has gone 2-3 in the UFC, though it may be the best losing record in this span. One of his losses was a controversial one against former champion T.J. Dillashaw and the other two came against the last two champions: Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling.

Against everyone else, Sandhagen has flourished. In fact, he’s finished five of his seven victories. As a lanky bantamweight, Sandhagen has an unorthodox style that is hard to deal with. A fighter will have to possess all-world talent and experience to get by Sandhagen and only Sterling has run through him.

Fair play, Sandhagen can struggle against fighters with prolific wrestling experience. The three men who beat him have significant grappling acumen, which Song could possess as a member of Team Alpha Male. But, ultimately, Sandhagen’s creativity and length makes him a trustworthy fighter to bet online.

Song Still Just 24

It’s hard to believe that Song is still so young and is already knocking on the door of a title shot. Still, facing Sandhagen could be a case of “too much too soon” for the Chinese warrior. Song holds victories over Marlon Vera and Marlon Moraes, but he’s also recently lost to Kyler Phillips, who isn’t ranked.

Even with 10 fights in the promotion, we’re still trying to figure out Song as he is still evolving. At his core, Song could be the next big thing out of Team Alpha Male as a prolific boxer-wrestler. The “Kung Fu Monkey” has one-punch knockout power, which is his equalizer.

Going against Sandhagen, Song faces a size disadvantage and will need to find ways to close the gap. He has already been frustrated against the likes of Phillips and Vera, who many believe beat him. But as we mentioned, Song is still growing so he could be like a new man on Saturday.

Sandhagen vs Yadong  Head-to-Head

The most obvious difference between Sandhagen and Song is size. The former has a three-inch advantage in height and reach. However, Song is five years younger. Sandhagen also has a switch style while Song is more of a basic striker at orthodox.

Sandhagen vs Yadong Prediction

The betting line on Sandhagen is a decent one so it could be the best UFC bet this weekend. Sandhagen will be too unpredictable for Song as the American will move around and pick his flat-footed opponent from range. Song is also not used to longer fights so he will fade the longer the bout goes.

For those backing Song, it’s best to grab a prop on him to finish Sandhagen on the sportsbook. That’s his most likely path to victory as he hits hard and can catch Sandhagen early in the fight. But beyond that, Sandhagen should put on a clinic against his younger counterpart.
