Flyweights Clash at UFC Fight Night

Unbeaten Streak on the Line

An unbeaten streak is on the line at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas this Saturday. Tatsuro Taira is 11-0 and favored to win with UFC betting markets against CJ Vergara.

The Japanese fighter has had only one fight in the organization, but he’s the short -245 favorite to improve to 12-0.

Vergara is 10-3-1 and looking to score consecutive wins after losing his UFC debut.

Let’s check the latest UFC odds, stats, and injury reports for Taira vs Vergara. We’ve plenty of UFC 281 odds for you to consider.

Taira Reps Japan

Taira is a proud Japanese fighter and he wants to show the world how good his countrymen are at MMA.

The 22-year-old flyweight hasn’t done anything wrong in his career to date and he has youth and talent on his side.

There’s lots of athletes in Tokyo, but in Okinawa, there’s not many,” Taira told UFC.com.

“Even so, I made it this far, and I want to show the Okinawans that we can do it. I have a lot of (skills) to show. I am good at kicking, striking, and also grappling. I want everybody to enjoy which fighting style I can show because I have a lot of drawers to pull from.”

His UFC debut win over Carlos Candelario was a nice effort, and although he didn’t get the finish, it showcased his skills. He limited Candelario to just 21 landed punches. He got taken down twice, but he was never in trouble.

The defense could again win the fight for Taira, who has been confidently backed into -245 odds with the sportsbook.

Vergara Building Record

It’s never easy to come back from losing your UFC debut, but Vergara bounced back nicely to beat Kleydson Rodrigues at UFC 274.

It was also ideal to have experience fighting on a pay-per-view card, so he came up trumps in front of a big crowd.

The Texan scored a UFC contract when beating Bruno Mesquita at Dana White’s Contender Series with a knockout via a knee to the body. It was an exciting finish and he was immediately given a spot on the card at UFC 268.

He lost to Ode Osbourne, but he went the distance and that’s credit to the 31-year-old, who could cause an upset.

Vergara is the +195 betting online underdog. We think he’s priced too high, especially against a fighter with only one UFC fight to his name.

Taira vs Vergara Prediction

It’s never easy to bet against an unbeaten fighter, but we can’t turn down the odds for Vergara.

He looked good in his last fight and his Contender Series victory was far too good to ignore. Therefore, the +195 odds are well worth taking.

We expect a finish either way, so it should be an exciting contest.
