The UFC fight card on Saturday is packed with quality fights, including Jalin Turner vs. Dan Hooker.
It’s an important fight for the lightweight rankings, as a loss for either fighter will see them slip further down the heap.
The sportsbook has Turner at -280, but New Zealand’s Hooker shouldn’t be underrated.
Turner Seeking Bounce Back
There is a lot of expectation with UFC betting markets for Turner, who lost to Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 285 in March.
It wasn’t his best performance against a tough fighter, but he looked much better when beating Jamie Mullarkey and Brad Riddell last year.
Turner’s career has always been marred by untimely losses, and losing to Hooker could be costly.
There is always a lot of online gambling support for Turner, who is a physical specimen, but that doesn’t always translate to wins. He is only 13-6, so his record isn’t overly outstanding, and he could be there for the taking.
However, Hooker is an enigmatic fighter with 12 losses on his record. Therefore, Turner should see this as an opportunity to push his way into a title contender spot.
Hooker Back on Track
UFC odds have Hooker at +210, which is a value price for a fighter coming off a knockout win over Claudio Puelles.
The Kiwi turned down a fight against Tony Ferguson, who he believed is well past his best. Instead, he opted to fight Turner, and it could pay off.
Beating Turner would propel him back into the spotlight, which he earned when beating the likes of Nasrat Haqparast and Paul Fielder.
His losses have come to the likes of Dustin Poirier, Islam Makhachev, Michael Chandler, and Arnold Allen. They are some classy names, so we wouldn’t overlook his sport betting odds.
“It definitely puts me back in the mix. A win like that over Turner, you are back in the top 10, you are back in the mix. People are back on the bandwagon,” Hooker said. “That is the beauty of this sport. You can change your life in a single night and that’s the way I feel things are going here.
“I’m just excited for that, I’m excited for the contest. I’m excited for how everyone responds to it. I already know how it’s going to go. There is no question in mind how this night goes.”
