UFC 267 Betting Recap: Russia Dominates While Teixeira Upsets

UFC 267 ended with a big upset as the 42-year-old Glover Teixeira finally achieved his dream of becoming a UFC champion by submitting Jan Blachowicz. Teixeira was a +230 underdog per his UFC betting odds but he dominated the champion like the line was backward.

Teixeira’s monumental win capped off an event that was otherwise dominated by the favorites. It was a similar case with the recent pay-per-view, UFC 267, which also went 10-1 for favorites. The Russians led the charge and went 7-1 against non-Russian opponents.

Russians Strike Gold

Biggest Favorites Delivered

If you parlayed all five Russians on the main card, you would have walked away with $252.16 for every $100 wagered. And you did not need to sweat anything as all of them won easily. Magomed Ankalaev (-315), Alexander Volkov (-275), and Petr Yan (-300) won clear-cut decisions while Islam Makhachev (-430) and Khamzat Chimev (-450) submitted their opponents within half a round.

Parlay Buster

However, if you literally parlayed all the Russians on the card, you would have walked away with tears as Shamil Gamzatov (-120) was beaten by Michal Oleksieczuk (-110). The Russian opened at -170 but was bet up to -120 after most of the bets online, including the sharp action, went to his opponent. These were smart as Oleksieczuk made short work of him.

Another Rough Night for Underdog Bettors

Teixeira Lone Bright Spot

The underdogs were nearly swept for the second straight PPV) but Glover Teixeira came through. He not only became the oldest fighter to capture their first UFC title but also made it look easy. Teixeira to win by a finish was +365 and him to win in round 2 was +1400, which both turned out to be the best UFC bets this weekend.

Big Underdogs With Big Letdowns

Just before the event started, a solid amount of sharp money came for the biggest underdogs. Li Jingliang went from +425 to +325 while Dan Hooker dropped from +475 to +325. Both fighters were finished easily combining for just four landed strikes. On the prelims, Makwan Amirkhani’s odds shortened from +275 to +205. He was knocked out in the second round.

Round Totals Go Over and Over

Decisions and Late Finish Cash Plenty of ‘Over’ Tickets

With eight decisions and a late submission victory, the over on the round totals went 9-5 for the event. Two fights in particular, surprisingly went to decision.

On the main card, light heavyweights Ankalaev and Oezdemir’s fight was set at over 2.5 rounds at +115 while their “Fight Goes To Decision” prop was +140. And earlier, Russians Albert Duraev and Roman Kopylov went all 15 minutes despite the totals being set at 1.5 rounds and the decision prop being +150 on the online sportsbook.

Surprise Finish

On the flip side, we saw some fighters finish fights despite the betting odds. Islam Makhachev, known mostly as a “decision machine,” quickly submitted Dan Hooker. The total here was set at 2.5 with the over going at -175 while the “Fight Does Not Go To Decision” prop was at even money. Makhachev to win by a finish was also set at +160.
