UFC 285 Props: A Long Hard Night

Saturday Could Be a Grueling Affair for High-Profile Fighters

UFC 285 does not only feature the return of the UFC’s greatest fighter in Jon Jones, it’s also a showcase for several of their blue chip prospects. And Valentina Shevchenko looks to defend her flyweight belt for the eighth time in the co-main event. The UFC lines are wide for many of these fighters though their fights may be a lot tougher than expected. Using the many UFC props, fans can pluck lucrative odds from their bouts.

Basharat and Blackshear Scrap to Decision

Hardcore fans love this matchup as both Farid Basharat (9-0-0) and Da’Mon Blackshear (12-4-1) are ready to throw down. Basharat is the better fighter on paper though Blackshear is a more explosive athlete. The Afghani newcomer will instead outlast Blackshear and win the final two rounds to cash his UFC odds.

  • Pick: F Basharat By Decision or Technical Decision +110

“Blonde Brunson” Claims Another Prospect

Derek Brunson (23-8-0) gets to fight another top prospect in Dricus Du Plessis (18-2-0). And like it’s usually been, the blonde one is the sportsbook’s underdog. The veteran is 4-1 in his last five bouts all as a dog. Du Plessis outwrestled a broken Darren Till. But going against an American wrestler is another story. Brunson will out grapple the South African for a decision victory.

  • Pick: D Brunson By Decision or Technical Decision +400

Garbrandt Outpoints Jones

Cody Garbrandt (12-5-0) is notorious for being one of the least durable fighters. Fortunately, a lot of things work in his favor against his opponent. Trevin Jones(13-9-0) is coming in on short notice, is just 1-3 in the promotion, and throws just 2.33 significant strikes per minute while absorbing nearly five in return. But Garbrandt may be at the point where he’s become weary of his “glass jaw”. So Garbrandt should win a rare decision by outpointing Jones.

  • Pick: C Garbrandt By Decision or Technical Decision +375

Bo Gets It Done Against Pickett

Just how much hype does Bo Nickal (3-0-0) have? He is a -1800 favorite against a tough UFC veteran like Jamie Pickett (13-8-0). Everyone and their grandma has Nickal atop their UFC picks and he should get the job done against Pickett. But it may take him longer than expected. Don’t bet the bank on Nickal to get it done in Round 1. A Round 2 or even Round 3 finish is almost as likely.

  • Pick: B Nickal In Round 2 +375

Shevchenko Tests Grasso’s Durability

Valentina Shevchenko (-900) dominates her division as much as Jones did at 205 pounds. The longtime-reigning champ is expected to beat Alexa Grasso (15-3-0). But it won’t be as easy as the UFC betting odds indicate. Grasso is durable and versed in both striking and grappling. Shevchenko will whittle her down. But this one is most likely to go five rounds.

  • Pick: V Shevchenko By Decision or Technical Decision +175

Jones Edges Gane To Make History

Jones (26-1-0) is ready to be the next UFC star to make an epic return. He’s favored to beat Ciryl Gane (11-1-0) and become a two-division champion. And he should get it done even if Gane could have his moments. The best betting lines here are for the fight to go over 4½ rounds and for it to go to a decision.

And the only way for Gane to win a decision against Jones is to score a few 10-8 rounds. The likes of Dominick Reyes and Alexaner Gustafsson did serious damage to Jones but lost decisions. Jones is a mastermind in the octagon and knows how to convince judges. That’s how he gets it done here as he headlines UFC news as the new heavyweight champion.

  • Pick: J Jones By Points +180
