UFC 312 Top 2 Prop Picks: Bet on Steele and Santos

1. Kody Steele vs Rongzhu

Kody Steele is an absolute machine who tore through the regional scene and then blasted his opponent inside two rounds on Dana White’s Contender Series to book his ticket to the UFC. The Washington, DC, native fights out of Syndicate MMA, so we know he has a good team behind him, and with Rongzhu as his debut opponent in Sydney this weekend, the UFC must also have faith in his abilities.

Rongzhu, aged 24, has already collected 31 fights worth of pro experience. He’s been to the UFC, been dropped, and come back again. Achieving all of this before reaching his mid-twenties is a testament to his skill set, but there’s a reason why the fighter with seven fights is still favored at BetUS Sportsbook instead of the one with 31.

Bet This Pick: Kody Steele by KO/TKO or Submission [+115]

Kody Steele Is THAT Guy

Let’s be frank here: Kody Steele is THAT guy! He might only have the pro-MMA experience of seven fights, but this man grappled middleweight and welterweight opponents before transitioning to MMA. When it comes to wrestling and jiu-jitsu, his experience far outweighs that of Rongzhu. Better yet, he barely needs to utilize his grappling in the cage because his fists are so damn heavy. Steele has finished five of his seven fights inside the distance, four of which came by knockout, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him bag another this weekend.

I actually see the MMA betting odds holding value on Steele despite being slightly juiced on a debutant. He seems to have all the necessary tools, and most importantly, as a UFC lightweight, his experience grappling 185-pounders will present such a strength differential that I expect the violence of a knockout or submission to surface in his octagon debut against Rongzhu.

  • Steele is unbeaten in pro-MMA
  • Steele has finished 5 of his 7 opponents inside the distance
  • Rongzhu is returning from a KO/TKO loss
  • Rongzhu has lost 5 pro-MMA bouts via KO or submission

2. Gabriel Santos vs Jack Jenkins

In the featherweight division, we have Australia’s own, Jack Jenkins, going toe-to-toe with a Brazilian fierce in Gabriel Santos. I’ll get straight to this point: I’ll never bet on a man [Jenkins] who struggled to defeat one of the worst fighters at featherweight, Herbert Burns.

Sure, Jenkins eventually found a stoppage win last time out versus Burns, but boy, was it a struggle to get there. If you’re a UFC-caliber fighter, Burns should be a couple of minutes of work, and the Aussie wasn’t up to the task.

Bet This Pick: Gabriel Santos by Submission or Decision [-160]

Fading the Burns Performance

Don’t get me wrong; this isn’t a complete fade based on Jenkins’s last performance. He’s fighting Santos, who has vicious muay thai striking, incredible blast double takedowns, and the jiu-jitsu to finish this one on the ground.

It wouldn’t be shocking to see Santos dominate this fight wherever it takes place, but the clear path to victory would be on the ground. As he can shoot takedowns on the cage or in the center of the octagon, I envision him dragging this fight to the mat and forcing Jenkins to tap or having enough top control to win the rounds.

The UFC prop odds aren’t great, but if we hit the double-chance market on Santos to win by submission or decision, we can boost our returns.

Here are some UFC betting trends to consider

  • Jenkins struggled to defeat Herbert Burns last time out
  • Santos took a top-ranked opponent, Lerone Murphy, to a split decision despite losing
  • Santos has looked great versus a considerably higher level of UFC competition despite a 1-2 promotional record

Our Favorite UFC 312 Prop Picks

  • Kody Steele by KO/TKO or Submission [+115]
  • Gabriel Santos by Submission or Decision [-160]
