If you follow UFC news, you’ll know that two years and an epic trilogy with Alexa Grasso has proved that Valentina ‘The Bullet’ Shevchenko has still got it, despite being 37 years old. The two-time flyweight division champion has sat amongst the elite of women’s MMA since she joined the UFC in 2015, but will her second reign be as fruitful as the first, which included seven straight title defences?

To put it bluntly, no, The Bullet won’t top her previous reign, but there’s no doubting that she has a few more left in her before retirement. One of which starts this weekend, versus the 12-fight win streak (7-0 UFC) of a French striking savage whose moniker, ‘The Beast,’ says it all.

So, it’s safe to say that Fiorot has relied on her striking more often than not. The question now is: what will she do versus a fellow striking savant like Shevchenko, who’s tangled and found success in striking exchanges versus the likes of Amanda Nunes and Joanna Jedrzejczyk?

It’s Not Time… Yet

Mother time certainly didn’t seem to be affecting Shevchenko last time out, and although her record has taken a hit from consecutive wins thanks to Grasso, she’s still one of the most well-rounded, complete fighters on the roster.

In a fight where striking could very well be equal, or even favor the champ, you have to evaluate who has the more complete skill set. With excellent takedowns and jiu-jitsu, The Bullet is a woman, undoubtedly!

Fiorot has some outside advantages, like size and confidence, but she has never faced an opponent of Shevchenko’s calibre. Should the Frenchwoman find success on the feet, The Bullet will have a plan B or C that she can also use.

Ultimately, I don’t envision Fiorot’s skill set as diverse enough to match the multiple paths to victory that The Bullet will possess, and to my surprise, the betting odds state otherwise.
