Coats and gloves might be necessary for the minus temperatures in Canada. Still, the UFC octagon will be heated when Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi arrive in Edmonton for this Saturday’s main event.

Brandon Moreno vs Amir Albazi Betting Preview

“The Assassin Baby”: Everyone’s Favorite Mexican

He might play with Lego and collect pop figures in his spare time, but don’t be fooled… “The Assassin Baby” has never been about child’s play inside the octagon. While he’s no stranger to building blocks, he’s also built an MMA legacy that positions him as one of UFC’s most recognizable flyweight talents.

On paper, Moreno has lost 3 of his previous 5 UFC appearances. In reality, he avenged one of those losses – Deiveson Figueiredo – by winning back the 125lb strap, and when he lost the title again to Alexandre Pantoja to then lose his return fight against Brandon Royval, neither of those bouts was lopsided and could’ve honestly gone either way.

Our favorite Mexican – sorry, Canelo fans – is back this weekend to retake his position as the rightful No.1 contender, but first, he must take out the undefeated UFC record and promotional up-and-comer in Amir Albazi!

Amir Albazi: Will the “The Prince” Get Assassinated?

Tipped as a future top-ranked flyweight potential since his UFC debut in 2020, Iraq’s Amir Albazi didn’t take long to match the hype, and within two years, he’d collected four straight wins, including two submission and one KO/TKO victory. However, with a fast rise to mixing his name amongst the 125lb elite, his only fight of 2023 wasn’t so impressive.

Could we call it off night when Albazi scraped a split decision over Kai Kara-France last time out? Sure, but although he remains undefeated as a professional mixed martial artist, many believe the wrong man was awarded the decision. If MMA math is anything to go by, Moreno decisively ran through Kara-France when those two met, suggesting he might have the edge come Saturday.

I wouldn’t be so sure… He isn’t called “The Prince” for nothing, as Albazi is always live to kick somebody’s ass royally. It will, however, be his toughest test to date, and the pressure will certainly be on as the winner could very well be in line to face the champion after Pantoja and Kai Asakura have clashed for the title.

Always remember to check the latest MMA news before placing your bets.

Moreno vs. Albazi: How do their skills match up?

Non-Stop Output from Moreno

Striking volume, pace, and non-stop action on the feet have been Moreno’s most noteworthy paths to victory thus far. He does have exceptional grappling skills, and his durability is second to none. However, if we’re to highlight a weak spot, it would certainly be above-average wrestlers and grapplers that cause him problems.

Moreno’s kryptonite in the cage has been controlling time. Most of his losing rounds throughout his UFC career have stemmed from fighters who can grapple him and maintain these positions.

Albazi: Pressure, Pressure, Pressure!

Albazi doesn’t have Moreno’s resume, so it isn’t easy to judge how elite his skills really are. However, based on what we’ve witnessed thus far, he’s all about fighting with a pressure game plan, and he’ll implement this overbearing style in both striking and grappling situations.

Can this pressure style crack the former champ? Well, if the best version of Moreno turns up, I’d say no. However, the version of Moreno of late has looked lethargic compared to his past self. Still, we cannot blame him after the Figueiredo trilogy and consistent high-level matchups.

Albazi’s best hope of winning rounds will likely stem through wrestling and grappling, but to achieve this for 25 minutes versus a cardio machine in Moreno won’t be easy.

  • Moreno’s only UFC losses were against champions, former champions, and title contenders
  • Albazi has fought just one opponent inside the top-10 flyweight rankings
  • Albazi is undefeated in the UFC (5-0)
  • Moreno has gone the distance in 50% of his UFC bouts
  • If your thinking about a good UFC prop bet, consider that Moreno has never lost a UFC bout by submission or KO/TKO

Moreno vs Albazi: UFC Edmonton Best Betting Pick

This matchupis so well-matched stylisticallythat making outright predictions on the moneyline is incredibly difficult. So, in looking for betting value outside of the ML markets, toughness and longevity are two factors that are screaming at me in this position.

As it’s Halloween week, I cannot ignore said screams. We have two fighters that seemingly hold never-ending cardio, as well as solid chins and BJJ defense, which have prevented them from ever being stopped inside the distance throughout their respective careers.

Five rounds of competitive action and the need for UFC judges to decide a winner seems likely. To me, this is a perfect way to attack the odds at BetUS Sportsbook, and with this fight holding great potential of going the distance, let’s hope the judges can get it right for once!

My Best Bet: Fight Goes the Distance/Yes (-200)
