Ben Rothwell and Marcos Rogerio de Lima meet at UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs Rodriguez on Saturday, where they have a combined age of 76.
UFC betting odds have the 40-year-old Rothwell at -160, so the vastly experienced fighter is expected to come out swinging against his 36-year-old Brazilian counterpart in the heavyweight co-main event.
Rothwell Gunning for Win No. 40
Ben Rothwell is trying to score as many wins as years that he has been alive, which is an incredible feat.
Shooting your age in golf is considered an all-time achievement, but we think it’s rivaled by a 40-year-old winning his 40th fight. Rothwell looks good for his age and he believes he still has a lot to provide.
“There’s some guys who are retired who are younger than me, and then there’s guys at 42 years old who do the most amazing things,” Rothwell told MMAJunkie. “It’s MMA, you just don’t know. Honestly, it’s in God’s hands.
My fire and drive is very much there because there’s a lot of I want to do and prove. Certainly prove and again remind everybody that I am one of the best heavyweights on the planet.”

A loss could end Rothwell’s career, as it almost did when losing to Marcin Tybura last year. He has managed to avoid getting knocked out, which has helped with his longevity.
A win over Chris Barnett at UFC Fight Night got his career back on track.
“I have to win all my fights from here on until the time is done. I don’t know how long that is. I’m not Andrei Arlovski. I’m not totally Benjamin Button, but I do get told that I’m looking good for 40,” he added.
The Wisconsin native is vying for one last chance at competing for the heavyweight belt. He hasn’t had the smoothest career, especially after getting suspension due to failing a drug test, but what better way to silence the critics by winning a 40th MMA fight.
The sportsbook expects the fight to be decided before the final bell. Under 2½ is paying -160, so there is market confidence with Rothwell to land a telling blow.
Does Rogerio de Lima Pose Threat?
Beating Maurice Greene isn’t easy, but Marcos Rogerio de Lima got the job done in May.
The fighter from Sao Paulo extended his career record to 18-8-1 with the victory, and he also has notable wins over Ben Sosoli and Adam Wieczorek.
The win over Sosoli was testament to his character. It was fought in Auckland, so Sosoli had the crowd support, but Rogerio de Lima ended it in just 1:28.
He is a knockout threat, so Rothwell will need to be wary of one landing. The Ultimate Fighter Brazil contestant isn’t worried about his inconsistency ahead of his biggest fight.
“I know I have a few losses, but I don’t think as I’m losing a fight,” de Lima said. “It’s all learning. I know I’m going to be better this Saturday, and I’m going to get the W and (enter) the top 15 of the heavyweight division. Keep your eyes on me.”
Our UFC best bets don’t predict de Lima making it to the top of the heavyweight division, but a win over Rothwell would put him in the picture.
He’s a +130 underdog so there has been some support at a price. Bookmakers are expecting Rothwell or de Lima to end the fight, so it could be a case of who lands the first big punch.
Rothwell vs Rogerio de Lima Pick
Anything can happen when the heavyweights battle, but we think Ben Rothwell will get the job done for bettors.
Betting online markets have him as the solid favorite, and despite being the older fighter, he still has strength in those arms.
We’re happy to take the -160, but for more value, include Rothwell by knockout at +175.
