2 Top UFC Prop Bets for This Weekend

1. Carlos Ulberg vs Volkan Oezdemir

When Carlos Ulberg enters the Galaxy Arena main floor during the entrance to his fight wearing nothing but shorts, you might get confused and start to think the UFC has a new brand deal with Calvin Klein. Don’t be fooled; this good-looking SOB isn’t just here to make us feel insecure. The former model, who’s actually refused to appear on The Bachelor (twice!), is a kickboxing savant who’s now finished five of his six UFC wins inside the distance and is much more than eye food for the ladies.

Ulberg, under the tutelage of City Kickboxing’s esteemed coaching system, has gone from a dangerous striker with questionable cardio and non-existent grappling to a well-crafted martial artist who’s proved his grappling evolution (one submission win) and seemingly fixed his gas tank. This makes him as dangerous as ever with that constant knockout threat and kickboxing prowess he brings to every fight.

Since losing his UFC debut, Ulberg has been on a tear, and like most City Kickboxing fighters, he’s been molded to reach the top rankings of a UFC weight class. His weekend foe, Volkan Oezdemir, is a light heavyweight gate-keeper challenge that will certainly give us a clearer view of “Black Jag’s” ceiling, which I believe is quite high.

Bet This Pick: Ulberg by KO/TKO or Decision [-170]

Betting the New Gen

When looking at BetUS Sportsbook odds on Ulberg’s moneyline, I don’t believe this represents the striking advantage the New Zealander will have! Oezdemir needs to make this a dogfight and hunt for a stoppage because a technical battle will result in a losing battle.

The speed of Ulberg will reign supreme, and from the outside, I expect him to pick Oezdemir apart at will. Volkan can land takedowns, which remains a red flag on Ulberg’s overall skill set despite his submission win. However, doing this for fifteen minutes isn’t viable for a UFC veteran who has preferred to stand and bang throughout his career.

Although I’m more than happy with the current moneyline price because the striking advantage for Ulberg is present, I wouldn’t expect another submission attempt, and therefore, picking the favorite to win by knockout or decision can boost our odds to a beautiful -170 price point.

Ulberg vs. Oezdemir Betting Trends:

  • 7 of Ulberg’s 10 pro career wins have come by KO/TKO
  • Ulberg has 4 knockouts, 1 submission, and 1 decision win in the UFC
  • Oezdemir has 2 knockouts, 1 submission, and 3 decision losses in the UFC

2. Cong Wang vs. Gabriella Fernandes

Cong Wang, or Wang Cong: Adjusting to the order Chinese nationals place their names is the biggest struggle during these Asian fight nights, but with my mind in the gutter, this week’s most favored competitor on the betting lines will be referred to as Wang.

When you enter the UFC as an unknown name but have recorded a win over Valentina Shevchenko in the kickboxing world, there will always be a level of hype surrounding your potential. That’s exactly the case with China’s Cong Wang, and fortunately for us fans, she delivered an emphatic performance in her promotional debut back in August.

Victoria Leonardo, the poor woman, didn’t stand a chance. Just one minute into the standup with Wang, a right cross put an end to her night early. Now, aged 32, the undefeated Wang (6-0) will likely receive a fast-track through flyweight rankings because the promotion knows what they have on their hands, and some even proclaim that her talents are capable of evolving her status into becoming a title contender of the future.

It’s incredibly difficult for me not to make Wang jokes, but Gabriella Fernandes really doesn’t size up. The Brazilian is mean, rugged, and physically imposing. However, regarding skill set, there isn’t much to run home about, and without takedowns, she’s doomed! Go with Wang in your UFC predictions.

Bet This Pick: Wang by Decision [-110]

Kickboxing to the Scorecards

With a background in professional kickboxing, you don’t need me to tell you that Fernandes will struggle. Furthermore, we’ve watched her get treated as a punching bag by much lower-level strikers, which is the biggest red flag when going against Wang.

The odds are juiced to the high heavens, with Wang coming in as the biggest betting favorite at UFC Macau. This line stems from Fernandes’ lack of grappling and mediocre striking, in which China’s brightest flyweight prospect will have her way in the striking realm.

What’s my UFC pick and how do we tackle the juice? Well, despite Wang’s technical striking prowess, she might struggle to put Fernandes out inside the distance because, for all of her flaws, durability and cardio aren’t one of them. We’re still dealing with flyweights here, and one-punch power isn’t exactly a feared aspect of their game. And when you couple that with Fernandes’ renowned toughness, I believe this fight screams decision.

Wang vs. Fernandes Betting Trends:

  • Cong Wang is undefeated in pro-MMA (6-0)
  • Fernandes is 1-2 in the UFC
  • Fernandes has never lost by KO/TKO or submission (9-3 pro record)

Our Favorite UFC Macau Prop Bets

  • Carlos Ulberg to Win by KO/TKO or Decision (-170)
  • Cong Wang by Decision [-110]
