2 UFC Tampa Parlay Picks: Best Bets for Dec 14

1. Dustin Jacoby vs Vitor Petrino: Speed and Youth Dominates

Brazil’s Vitor Petrino (11-1 UFC record) was sailing toward collecting a top-ranked position in the UFC Light Heavyweight division until his most recent outing versus a savvy veteran in Anthony Smith reduced his hype. As always, the fickle onlookers called it a fraud check, and apparently, Petrino is now useless.

Don’t jump the gun here, especially considering the drop in competition Petrino will face in Dustin Jacoby (19-9-0). Who, at 36, just hasn’t looked very good of late. It’s the brutal truth, but when you’ve lost 4 of your previous 5 outings, it’s looking like an axing to the regional scene could be on the cards for the Colorado native.

Petrino has yet to prove himself versus the elite at 205 lbs, but luckily for him, mid to lower-level opposition has been a breeze thus far, and that’s precisely what category Jacoby falls under. Not to mention, he’s just 27 years old, and to count him out as a prospect would be foolish with so much room for improvement. He’s our first UFC betting pick on Saturday.

Bet This Pick: Vitor Petrino Moneyline [-330]

Brazil For the Dub

Let’s be honest: Smith sunk the guillotine choke on Petrino to hand him his first UFC loss, but Jacoby isn’t going to present similar threats. In fact, I don’t see any advantages for Jacoby during Saturday’s clash. With a cracking left hook on the feet and a clear speed advantage, Jacoby’s kickboxing background isn’t going to be much of a threat, even more so when we consider Petrino’s obvious grappling upside.

Sure, the UFC betting odds are slightly juiced, but whether this fight takes place on the feet or in grounded situations, the Brazilian brute’s athleticism, hunger, speed, power, jiu-jitsu game, and desperation to prove that the Smith result was a blip in the system should be more than enough for him to position himself back in the win column.

  • Petrino has won 8 of his 11 pro-MMA bouts inside the distance
  • Jacoby has lost 6 of his 13 UFC bouts
  • Jacoby has won just 1 of his previous 5 UFC appearances

2. Michael Johnson vs Ottman Azaitar: Good Boys Go to Sleep Early During X-Mas

Naughty boys frolicking around after hours to get coal for Christmas. Still, lightweight contenders Michael Johnson (22-19-0) and Ottman Azaitar (13-2-0) won’t have such a problem when Santa realizes they’ve gone to or been put to sleep in a combined 37 fights during their respective pro-MMA careers.

That’s 37 occasions where Johnson or Azaitar have knocked out submitted the opposition or have been KO’d or tapped throughout their combat sports careers. Now, the two will cross paths in Tampa this weekend, and to expect nothing less than violence would be foolish.

Johnson versus Azaitar is the feature preliminary card bout for a reason: The UFC anticipates a barn-burner, and no doubt, someone will be gifted for avoiding the naughty list because another early night is highly probable. Bet online on this fight not going the distance.

Bet This Pick: Fight Goes the Distance/No [-220]

Nighty-Night!

Skill-for-skill, Johnson is clearly the more talented fighter of the two, and that’s why MMA odds are slightly juiced in his favor. At the same time, Azaitar can crack, and we know Johnson’s chin can be compromised, which also doesn’t sit well alongside a career filled with nine submission losses.

Likewise, Azaitar’s durability has proven untrustworthy of late. He went from an undefeated fighter with a string of knockout wins to consecutive knockout losses. He’s also winless since 2020, which doesn’t bode well when opposed to a veteran craftsman like Johnson.

All of this has the makings for an early night. It doesn’t matter who gets the finish; we just need violence, as our final leg of this week’s parlay will be on this fight, not going the distance.

Fight Doesn’t Go the Distance Supporting Betting Trends:

  • Azaitar has lost back-to-back fights in round 1
  • All but 1 of Azaitar’s pro-MMA wins were by KO/TKO or submission
  • Johnson has seen 23 submission or KO/TKO wins or losses during his career
