UFC Vegas 105 Best Parlay Picks

  • Robert Valentin vs Torrez Finney: Fight Doesn’t Go the Distance (-250)

Twenty-six-year-old Torrez Finney is the only fighter in UFC history to have had to win three Dana White’s Contender Series matchups to earn a contract and a debut for the promotion, which will finally take place this weekend in Vegas.

Finney, now with a 10-0 record, nicknamed ‘The Punisher,’ unquestionably punishes the opposition, having dispatched eight of his 10 career opponents by knockout (7) or submission (1). Now, after the sh*t show he displayed when defeating Cam Rowston, I understand Dana’s reasoning to bring him back to DWCS for a third try-out. However, did you see how Torrez reacted? The man bullied Abdellah Er-Ramy like he owed him money, beat him into the ground violently, and collected a first-round stoppage.

Finney’s violent nature is certified, but then his UFC debut opponent, Robert Valentine (10-2), is no stranger to avoiding the judges himself. Having gone the distance in just 2 of his 14 pro-MMA bouts to date, Switzerland’s Valentine has been all about those round one or two stoppages, whether that’s in success or defeat.

Making a Statement

We have two inexperienced middleweights who are looking to make a statement on the big stage, and equally have a history of causing mayhem in the octagon. If this doesn’t scream ‘no judges needed,’ I don’t know what does!

The wrestling advantage for Finney is huge in this spot, and his vicious intent on the ground will be a problem for many lower-level middleweights. While I believe he’s the side here, the inexperience of both fighters makes this a bout where betting it to end inside the distance seems logical.

Finney’s athleticism, power, and questionable cardio matched with Valentine’s slippery transitions, length, submissions, and punishable chin are the focus here, and with a reasonable price, they make for a great initial UFC parlay picks selection.

Fight Goes the Distance/No Supporting Betting Trends

  • Finney has finished 80% of his pro-MMA bouts inside the distance
  • In 7 of his 10 MMA bouts, Finney has won by knockout
  • Valentin has gone the distance in just 2 of his 14 pro-MMA bouts to date

Bet This Pick: Fight Goes the Distance – No (-250)

  • Victor Henry vs Pedro Falcao: Henry by KO/TKO or Decision (-170)

Victor Henry (24-7) is a 37-year-old bantamweight. Yes, the alarm bells start to chime when considering that the prime career time frame for 135-pounders is significantly lower than for other weight classes. However, before we write about the California native, whose 3-2 UFC record may not be impressive on paper, it’s worth noting that the level of competition he has lost against has notably been elite.

Charles Jourdain and Raphael Assuncao show no shame in their career defeats. Then we evaluate Henry’s successes: Raoni Barcelos, Tony Gravely, and Rani Yahya, all of whom are credible wrestlers and/or grapplers in their own right.

Why are UFC wins over grapplers relevant, you might ask? Well, Henry’s weekend opponent, Pedro Falcao (16-4), is a new face to the UFC whose career has been heavily assisted by his grappling prowess. In fact, without a grappling edge, he stands zero chance against a calm, patient, and high-volume striker like Henry, as evidenced by his UFC debut loss to Victor Hugo by unanimous decision. The MMA odds for this one are primed for a parlay bet.

BJJ or Bust

I know, sometimes MMA math isn’t as straightforward as it sounds, but we have to credit Henry’s wrestling defense (83%) in the UFC and believe he’s just as capable as Hugo, who defended 12 of the 13 takedown attempts Falcao went for.

Now, at times, Henry has opted to utilize his wrestling skills, but here, the game plan is evident. Avoid tying up, cliches, or any takedown attempts whatsoever, and it should be an easy fight. Falcao is arguably the lowest-level opponent he has faced in the UFC thus far. If he can defend against the elite grappling and BJJ skills of Rani Yahya, I believe he can do the same against Falcao.

If Falcao catches a first-round submission, this article never existed (shh). However, with a first glance at these UFC betting odds that are only juiced to Henry’s side to -170 for him to win by knockout or decision, give me the experienced American to piece up the grappler on the feet to either find a late stoppage or unanimous decision following 15 minutes of sprawling, and brawling!

Henry by KO/TKO or Decision Supporting Betting Trends

  • Henry’s lone UFC losses are against former top-ranked bantamweight competitors
  • Falcao is 0-1 in the UFC and failed 12 takedown attempts in his debut

Bet This Pick: Button: Henry by KO/TKO or Decision (-170)
