Best 2 Parlay Picks for UFC Vegas 98
1. Brandon Royval vs Tatsuro Taira: The Mexican Killer
What do Alex Perez, Carlos Hernandez, Edgar Chairez, Jesus Aguilar, CJ Vergara, and Carlos Candelario have in common? If they weren’t born in Mexico, they stem from Mexican heritage. However, that isn’t the lone commonality, as they’ve all lost to Tatsuro Taira (16-0, pro-MMA) since the Japanese youngster made his UFC debut in 2022.
Now, I need to be careful with my words here, but let’s say Tatsuro Taira eats tacos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Now, ahead of UFC Vegas 98, he’s preparing for another fighter of Mexican descent, Brandon Royval (16-7-0, pro-MMA).
Forget your statistics, ignore the stylistic matchup, and throw your fight tape out of the window… Taira is the Mexican killer, and that’s the only piece of betting information you need before placing your bets this weekend.
Bet This Pick: Taira Moneyline (-280)

Bet the Future
In all seriousness, and although it’s fun to dub him the ‘Mexican Killer,’ I’m not strictly betting Taira because Royval is Mexican. I’m betting on him because he’s a savage. And listen, I know that Royval will be his most fierce foe to date, but I cannot look past the clear grappling advantage he’ll own. Yes, he’s only 24 years old, and usually, that’s a red flag, but he’s trained in mixed martial arts since the age of 12.
Have you seen Taira’s UFC tenure to date? The guy has bullied everyone with an authoritative wrestling offensive, thanks to his past accolades of winning multiple Shoot tournaments that primarily center around wrestling/grappling.
Royval is a BJJ black belt and an absolute firecracker in the cage, but although Taria is just a purple belt, his takedowns and top control have been so elite that he’s entirely capable of nullifying the jiu-jitsu threats in front of him.
The UFC betting odds are slightly juiced for a 24-year-old who’s still untested versus the top-10 of the flyweight rankings, but it’s hard not to think this kid is the future, and should he treat Royal like past opponents; we may not have the chance to bet him at -280 again.
Taira Moneyline Supporting Betting Trends:
- Taira is undefeated as a pro-MMA fighter (16-0)
- Taira has won six straight fights in the UFC (4 by KO or submission)
- Royval has lost 3 of his previous 6 UFC bouts.
This is why he’s a title contender 🫡

2. Josh Fremd vs Abdul Razak Alhassan: The Better Losing Streak
Picking between two losers is never easy, and both Josh Fremd and Abdul Razak Alhassan enter their clash this weekend as winless fighters in their two most recent bouts. However, there’s a clear difference, which would be the competition level.
Alhassan suffered a no-contest versus Cody Brundage, whom he was winning against up until that point, and before that, it was a loss to the formidable Joe Pyfer. He’s also put a valiant effort against Joaquin Buckley in the past, and we know how well that’s aged. In contrast, Fremd lost to Andre Petroski and Roman Kopylov, and his two wins came against unranked opponents and one who was no longer fighting with the company. Oh, and we can’t forget his loss to a 3-2 Tresean Gore… Embarrassing.
Alhassan isn’t the next coming of Jon Jones or anything, but Fremd is bad, and as you see above, with the competition levels, they’ve been fighting in different leagues. Therefore, we’re siding with A-league for our second parlay pick, and to be honest, ‘Judo Thunder’ has the potential to make this one look easy.
Bet This Pick: Alhassan Moneyline (-165)

Fading the Fraud
Fremd’s striking is weak; he spends a lot of time standing and staring, and to date, he hasn’t reached the 100-strikes-landed mark in a single bout. In fact, he struggles to reach 50! Many critics will proclaim he’s one of the worst middleweights in the UFC, and with the current roster cut going on, don’t be surprised if you see him back on the regionals this time next year. In addition, although his grappling could be his best attribute, I don’t envision him having enough to trouble the judo black belt in Alhassan.
I know, I know… Alhassan is 39, and he has had cardio issues in the past. That said, when you put his skills up against Fremd, there’s no denying he’s the more talented MMA fighter. Not to mention, he’ll be stronger, hit harder, and has fought a much tougher level of competition throughout his career.
The best part about this fight is the MMA odds, which have the more seasoned UFC fighter, with higher finishing potential, greater striker talent, and physicality, as a slight betting favorite (165).

Alhassan Moneyline Supporting Betting Trends:
- Alhassan is 1-1-1 in his previous 3 UFC bouts
- Fremd has lost 4 of his 6 UFC bouts to date
- Fremd has lost 1 UFC fight by KO, 1 by submission, and 2 by decision
