UFC Bantamweight Main Event

UFC lines predict a close battle in Saturday’s main event between Marlon Vera and Cory Sandhagen.

The bantamweights hope to progress to a possible title shot in 2023, so winning at AT&T Center has plenty on the line.

Vera Confident

Vera has copped criticism from opponent Sandhagen in the weeks leading up to the main event. Sandhagen believes he doesn’t have a true way to win his fights, but UFC news reported Vera disagreeing.

“He needs to convince himself of being OK to win,” Vera told MMA Junkie. “I don’t need to say anything about him to think I’m going to win. I’m going to win because I’m working this hard. So, if he thinks my style is not reliable or whatever he thinks, that’s on him.

“Whatever he thinks about my style, you still got to face me. You still got to go through me. I got 20 minutes (25) to figure it out and put you out.”

He showed his class when winning twice in 2022. The first win came against Rob Font with a five-round decision before knocking out Dominick Cruz in the fourth round of their epic battle at UFC Fight Night in August.

UFC odds respect his chances of scoring an upset, but there are doubts if his four-fight winning streak will continue against someone of Sandhagen’s class.

Sandhagen Back on Track

It looked like Sandhagen’s career was in trouble when losing consecutive fights to T.J. Dillashaw and Petr Yan in 2021, but he rebounded with a win against Yadong Song last year.

It was a much-needed win for the 30-year-old American, who has fought in big fights throughout his impressive career.

He is ranked fifth in the bantamweight division, so he’s close to getting another title shot, especially if he beats Vera.

My game is really tight. It’s really solid. It’s top five for sure, (but) I don’t want to be top five. I don’t want to go the next five, six years I have in the sport (just) in the top five. That’s not what I’m interested in. That’s not what I signed up for. I want to be champ,” Sandhagen said.

He is always popular with UFC bets, so we expect the -170 odds to shorten throughout the week. It could hit -190, so if you’re fancying Sandhagen to win, jump on early.
