Heavyweights to Battle at UFC Fight Night

Bruising heavyweights co-headline UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas on Saturday, and UFC lines are finding it tough to split them.

Alexander Volkov vs Alexandr Romanov will see one Alex win and it’s a mouth-watering heavyweight clash.

Romanov is 16-1, so his impressive record is on the line.

35 Wins for Volkov

There aren’t many fighters in the UFC with 35 wins on their record, so the sports betting underdog has to be respected.

Volkov is currently paying +125 to win, which is a tidy price for the explosive Russian, who knocked out Jairzinho Rozenstruik last June.

His most recent losses came against Ciryl Gane, who fought Jon Jones last Sunday, and Tom Aspinall. That’s about as good as it gets in the heavyweight division, so credit goes to the 34-year-old veteran.

Having that much experience could help him in the co-main event. He has been in big fights before, so this is nothing new for him and we wouldn’t be surprised if he was a popular option with UFC picks.

He wants a title shot, but beating Romanov is his only chance of getting one.

“What I’m going to do is I’m going to make sure to show that whatever fights I’m in, I (am) deserving of the next title shot”, Volkov said. “I think that’s something all the other heavyweights should be focused on. The position in the rankings, it’s not as important as what you are doing to be the next title contender?”

The underdog shouldn’t be underrated, but facing Romanov isn’t a step down in class.

Romanov Back at It

It was a slight shock to see Romanov lose to Marcin Tybura at UFC 278. The Moldovan hadn’t lost throughout his career, so the loss made UFC news headlines.

The 32-year-old is good enough to address his faults and bounce back, especially after beating Chase Sherman and Marcos de Lima earlier in his career. However, compared to the record of Volkov, he hasn’t faced the same level of opposition

That’s a concern for bettors looking to take the -155 with UFC fight night odds. Losing to Tybura isn’t an ideal preparation for the title contender, who might have found his level.

“The only thing that I learned from my last fight is do not leave it in the hands of the judges, because you can’t trust what decision they’re going to make,” Romanov said. “So, what I need to do is go in there, dominate, and make sure the fight ends before the judges decide if I won or lost.”

Regardless of how unlucky he was to not win that fight, it was a disappointing result. It’s not easy to bounce back from your first career loss, so that’s the battle the favorite faces.
