Caitlin Clark Knocked Down in On-Court Fight, Sophie Cunningham Gets Revenge

Caitlin Got Hit, but Indiana Got the Win That Mattered

Things Got Messy!

I’m not here to make some moral argument. I’m just saying if you poke someone in the eye and shove them to the floor, don’t be shocked when it comes back around. Tuesday night’s Fever-Sun game was physical, petty, and borderline unhinged. Great television, in other words!!

The game actually mattered, which made this all so much better. The Fever needed a win to clinch a spot in the Commissioner’s Cup Final, and they got it: 88–71 over Connecticut. But nobody’s talking about the score, obviously.

It started when Jacy Sheldon poked Caitlin Clark in the eye. Then Marina Mabrey shoved her to the floor. Clark shoved back and got a tech, because CC isn’t very good at hiding these things. A little later, with the game basically over, Sheldon tried to layup on a fastbreak and Sophie Cunningham just dropped her. No ball play, just a full-on tackle. It was glorious.

The refs gave her a flagrant 2 and tossed her. She posted a shrugging photo on X later like she already knew the fine was coming and didn’t care. Maybe she didn’t?

The Fever Are Going to the Cup Final

Under all this drama in WNBA news is the fact that the Fever looked really good. Caitlin Clark stats show it, too. She dropped 20 and hit four threes, she also never faltered. Kelsey Mitchell and Natasha Howard chipped in too, and now Indiana’s heading to the Commissioner’s Cup Final on July 1 to face the Minnesota Lynx.

If you’re into WNBA betting odds, BetUS has Napheesa Collier as the favorite for Cup MVP at -200, with Caitlin Clark right behind at +175. If you’re making any WNBA picks, that’s probably where you start. But basically, it’s going to be a great game.

Summary for the People Who Watch the W for the Drama (Me)

Caitlin got poked, shoved, and still led her team to a win. Sophie saw what happened and took matters into her own hands. The Fever are Cup Final-bound. And everyone’s back to arguing about physical play in the W instead of more WNBA rumors.

I don’t know if Sophie will get suspended. I do know she got her point across. And if you’re Caitlin, it probably feels good knowing someone’s got your back during WNBA games.
