Favored Sun Looks to Clobber Clark, Fever For Second Time This Season

Connecticut-Indiana Game Could Land Over 163½-Point Total

The Indiana Fever is one of the three remaining winless teams in the WNBA. However, Indiana covered the WNBA betting line for the first time in its most recent game.

Dating back to last season, the Sun have won nine straight against the Fever following a 92-71 decision in the season opener for both teams.

Carrington, Harris Delivering For the Sun

With the return of Brionna Jones, who was limited to 13 games in an injured-shortened 2023 season, the Connecticut Sun figured to have the best frontcourt in the WNBA this season. With their top two perimeter scorers (Tiffany Hayes and Natisha Heideman) gone, there were questions about the production from the Connecticut backcourt.

Two games is a small sample size but it is hard to argue with the 29 points per game that Connecticut is getting from starting guards DiJonai Carrington and Tyasha Harris. Neither are showing up in the Las Vegas odds when it comes to the WNBA MVP odds, but they hold the key to Connecticut’s quest to win the franchise’s first WNBA title.

Carrington, who never averaged more than 8.3 points in her first three WNBA seasons, is averaging 18.5 heading into this matchup.

She drew the defensive assignment on Indiana star rookie Caitlin Clark and helped limit the record-breaking rookie to 5-for-15 shooting in her first WNBA regular-season game. Carrington and Clark figure to see plenty of each other once again on Monday.

Four of Connecticut’s last five games landed over the total.

Can Caitlin Clark and Indiana Pick Up Their First Win?

One trend to keep an eye on is that after losing to the New York Liberty by 36 points, Indiana made things more interesting before losing the rematch by 11 as a 13½-point underdog.

Will a similar pattern take shape on Monday after Indiana fell by 21 to Connecticut last week?

Caitlin Clark is coming off her best game in the early stages of her WNBA career with 22 points (on 9-of-17 shooting) with four 3-pointers, six rebounds and eight assists. After committing 10 turnovers in the previous matchup with Connecticut, she had eight more in that game with the New York Liberty.

A promising sign was that four of the five starters scored in double figures with Kelsey Mitchell having 17 points, Aliyah Boston adding 12 points and seven rebounds with NaLyssa Smith adding 11 points and eight rebounds.

The more than the other Indiana players can score, the more room Clark will have to operate.

Four of Indiana’s last five games went under the total.

Sun vs Fever Best Bet

It will be another huge crowd to watch the Fever hit the court and perhaps that will help Indiana in its quest for its first regular-season win since topping the Minnesota Lynx in the final game of the 2023 season.

Indiana is allowing 95 points in the first three games of the season and if that doesn’t change, Indiana could be headed to another lottery pick in the WNBA Draft.

Indiana continues to be without veteran forward Damaris Dantas.

Connecticut Sun guard Tiffany Mitchell is Indiana’s fifth all-time leading scorer after spending her first seven seasons with the Fever. She had four points in each of her two games at Indiana during the 2023 season as a member of the Minnesota Lynx.

Thanks to Clark’s presence, there was significantly more betting action on the Sun-Fever game than any of the other four games on the opening night of the WNBA season with plenty of money coming in on Clark’s scoring, 3-pointers and assists props.

When it comes to the WNBA over/under picks, the 163½-point total is the lowest of the first four games for the Fever. Although the teams combined to average less than 150 points in the 2023 meetings, it won’t be a surprise to see this game land over the total.
