Will Minnesota Make it Two Wins in a Row Against Aces?
The only 3-0 and 0-3 teams will be meeting up in Vegas in the final of the three games played on Sunday. The WNBA predictions list the host Aces as the favorite.
The Aces have scored at least 93 points in each of their first three games after winning the 2022 WNBA title and now they look for their second home win of the 2023 season.
The Aces lead the WNBA in scoring, rebounds and steals. They are the only team in the league shooting better than 50% from the field and 40% from 3-point range. The Lynx is last in the WNBA in 3-point shooting, connecting on 24.2% of the shots from behind the 3-point line. Keep that in mind when making WNBA picks.
Minnesota won the last meeting with Las Vegas to snap the Aces’ four-game winning streak in the series. Eight of the last 10 meetings between the Lynx and Aces finished under the WNBA odds total.
When looking at the WNBA news, Minnesota’s Kayla McBride is no longer on the injury report after missing Thursday’s game against Phoenix due to personal reasons. Veteran guard Riquna Williams has yet to play this season for the Aces due to a back injury.
The Aces’ A’ja Wilson (+250) and Kelsey Plum (+550) are tied for first and third in the WNBA Most Valuable Player odds. Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier is tied for 13th at +4000.
According to the WNBA playoff odds, Las Vegas (+110) is first in the odds to win the WNBA title while Minnesota is tied for 11th at +3800.
Defense a Work in Progress
Minnesota committed 11 turnovers and was +8 in points in the paint the last time out and still lost by nine points to the Mercury to spoil a 20-point effort off the bench by Aerial Powers.
The defense let down the Lynx as Phoenix turned 11 turnovers into 21 points and the Mercury connected on 13-of-28 shots from 3-point range. Diana Taurasi led the way with four 3-pointers as she had 23 points and 10 assists.
That defense will be tested against what could be the best starting lineup in the WNBA with the four returning starters averaging more than 12 points per game for the undefeated Aces. Las Vegas is averaging 10 made 3-pointers per contest so that is a concern for Minnesota heading into Sunday’s matchup.
Minnesota is 0-5 in its last five games against the WNBA betting lines.
Aces Finishing Strong
Las Vegas has won two of its first three games by at least 25 points against fellow Western Conference teams.
The Aces have been unstoppable at times in the second half to keep winning games in impressive fashion. Las Vegas were +19 and +26 in the second half in the first two games of the season. With the Aces up 59-28 at halftime against an undermanned Los Angeles team, they took their foot off the pedal in Saturday’s game and still outscored the Sparks in the second half.
Guards Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum are a combined 9-of-16 from 3-point range in the second half so far this season. With the ability of Plum and Young to connect from the perimeter, that has opened up even more room for former MVP A’ja Wilson as she is coming off a 23-point effort in Saturday’s win.
