Scuffling Chicago Looks To Remain in Playoff Position

Both teams will be trying to end losing streaks when the Chicago Sky visit the Seattle Storm on Saturday night, making for a tough call at the sportsbook.

Chicago is holding onto the eighth and final WNBA playoff spot despite a four-game losing streak that continued with an 80-62 loss at the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday. The Sky shot 34.2% from the field and connected on just 2-of-21 shots from 3-point range.

Seattle suffered its eighth consecutive defeat on Thursday against the league-best Las Vegas Aces as the WNBA’s leading scorer Jewell Loyd was held to 12 points on 3-for-13 shooting in a 79-63 loss at home.

Chicago, which is 4-6 on the road, owns a one-game lead on the Los Angeles Sparks for eighth-spot in the standings and the Storm has dropped to the bottom – four games back.

The Sky is +12500 to win the WNBA title in the current Las Vegas odds while Seattle is +40000.

Sky Struggling On Offense

Chicago is averaging 70.3 points during its four-game slide and has dropped to 11th in the league in scoring – two spots below Seattle.

All-Star Kahleah Copper has been the only consistent scorer for the Sky, averaging 25 points in the two games before the break last weekend and registering 17 in Thursday’s loss. Copper is averaging 17.3 on the season and recorded at least 14 in the last nine contests.

Marina Mabrey is the only other double-figure scorer (14.4), but she is just 9-for-43 from the field during the current losing streak. Elizabeth Williams (9.5 points) has picked it up of late, averaging 12.7 across her past six contests.

It does not help that Chicago stands last in the league in free-throw shooting at 71.6 percent and is 40-for-61 during the losing streak

The under is 4-0 in the last four Chicago games, according to wnba lines, and is 13-8 overall in Sky contests during 2023.

Clouds Lingering For Storm

Seattle was no match for Las Vegas overall, but did hold the Aces to their lowest point total in a victory this season.

Loyd, who scored 39 against Washington in her last regular-season game (July 11) before the break and had 31 to win the MVP of the All-Star game (July 15), could not get much going Thursday.

Rookie Jordan Horston led the way with Loyd out injured against Atlanta on July 12, registering 23 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. The Tennessee product followed that up with 11 points against Las Vegas.

Ezi Magbegor has had a solid season for the Storm, averaging 13.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocks (second in the WNBA)..

The under is 3-1 in the last four Seattle games and the Storm is 11-9-1 ATS if you are online gambling.

Sky vs Storm Head-to-Head

This is the first of three meetings in 2023 after Seattle took two of three last season.

Chicago won all three matchups in 2021 on its way to the WNBA title and the under is 5-3 in the last eight meetings, according to wnba odds.

Loyd is averaging 16.7 points in her career against Chicago. Copper averaged 14 points in two games versus Seattle last year.

Seattle plays at Chicago on July 28 and Aug. 22.

Sky vs Storm Picks and Prediction

The Sky really need this one on the road with three in a row on the horizon at home, including another against the Storm.

You can expect Chicago to be very focused to get the job done against a struggling team, but Seattle will be much looser at home.

Both teams are averaging under 80 points and Seattle is last in the league in field-goal percentage (39.6). That bodes well for the under, but Loyd and Copper may light it up land 160 might not be a tough figure to get to.

This could be the game where the Storm puts it all together. Take Seattle. And if you get a few points, even better..

The Sky are listed at +105 in our Las Vegas wnba odds. This means that if you wager $100 on Chicago, you have a chance to win $108. The Storm are -125, offering a chance to win $80 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Sky a 48.78% chance to win, with Seattle at 55.56%.
