Dallas Goes after Fifth Win in a Row

Sparks Looking To Sweep the Season Series

There shouldn’t be much need for advanced scouting reports heading into this game as Los Angeles and Dallas played three times in less than two weeks in June. The WNBA predictions favor Dallas to win on Saturday and the Wings have been favored in each of the previous three matchups.

Los Angeles won each of those three games after the Wings won five of the previous seven matchups. The teams are heading in different directions with Dallas winning four games in a row and Los Angeles on a seven-game losing streak.

When looking at the WNBA news, Los Angeles has been without Chiney Ogwumike for the last six games and she is supposed to miss multiple weeks with a foot injury. Nia Clouden is also sidelined with a knee injury for Los Angeles while Karlie Samuelson is questionable for the game. Dallas continues to be without Diamond DeShields and rookie Lou Lopez Senechal.

When making WNBA picks, keep in mind that Dallas has committed 51 turnovers in the three losses to Los Angeles.Dallas is averaging the second fewest turnovers per game in the WNBA with Los Angeles ranking in the middle of the pack in that category.

According to the WNBA playoff odds, Dallas (+5000) is fifth in the odds to win the WNBA championship. Los Angeles is well back at +15000 in the championship odds.

Stevens Stepping Up

Without her sister in the lineup, Los Angeles Sparks’ leading scorer Nneka Ogwumike needs somebody else to contribute in the frontcourt.

Azura Stevens was showing signs of being that player with averages of 15.8 points and 9.2 rebounds during a five-game stretch before finishing with just two points and five rebounds in a loss to Minnesota the last time out.

Stevens was pretty quiet in the three matchups with Dallas as she finished with 19 points on 7-of-19 shooting to go with 15 rebounds in a total of 72 minutes.

If Stevens can stay out of foul trouble, and that is a big if since she had five fouls in four of her last five games, look for her to play more than 24 minutes in this matchup.

The Sparks are 0-4-1 against the WNBA betting lines in the last five games.

Hitting the Glass

During its current four-game winning streak, no team in the WNBA has pulled down more offensive rebounds per game than the 10.8 by Dallas and that is being done even though Dallas is third in the WNBA with a 47.8 field-goal percentage during that stretch.

Even with fewer offensive rebounding opportunities based on the number of shots being made by the Wings, getting to extend possessions with offensive rebound is just one reason why the Wings are averaging 90.5 points while beating Las Vegas, Indiana, Minnesota and New York.

Teaira McCowan is tied for the WNBA team with an average of four offensive rebounds per game during the winning streak and Natasha Howard is sixth with 2.8 offensive rebounds per contest. McCowan had four offensive rebounds and Howard added two in a 10-point win over New York.

Something to consider for those who bet online: Dallas has covered in four of its last five games.

Sparks vs Wings Betting Lines

Sparks vs Wings Prediction

Dearica Hamby and rookie Zia Cooke are the only Los Angeles players to appear in every game this season and the injury issues aren’t getting much better with Chiney Ogwumike not coming back for a while. That is a problem as Los Angeles tries to match up with McCowan and Howard inside.

Los Angeles has outscored Dallas by 19 points at the foul line in the three matchups. Dallas has attempted more foul shots than their opponents in each contest during the winning streak and playing at home, it seems unlikely that the Sparks will have the edge when it comes to getting to the foul line.

Los Angeles ranks 11th out of 12 teams in both offensive and defensive field goal percentage and that has played a huge role in Sparks sitting in ninth place in the standings.

Some other numbers to consider is that Dallas is 7-2 at home and Los Angeles has a 2-8 record on the road. The records against the WNBA odds are almost identical with Dallas covering in six of the home dates and Los Angeles 2-7-1 ATS on the road. Look for Dallas to win, but the Sparks could cover as 7½-point underdogs.

The Los Angeles Sparks are listed at +300 in our Las Vegas basketball odds. This means that if you wager $100 on the Sparks, you have a chance to win $300. The Dallas Wings are priced at -360, offering a chance to win $28 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Sparks a 25.00% chance to win, with the Wings at 78.26%.
