Wilson, High-Scoring Aces Tall Task for New-Look Sparks

Two-Time Defending Champions Massive Home Favorites

The Los Angeles Sparks allowed 92 points in a loss to the Atlanta Dream in the regular-season opener so those who bet online can only imagine the damage the star-studded Las Vegas Aces might unleash on the Sparks on Saturday.

The last time the Sparks played in Vegas, the Aces rolled to a 19-point win as the Aces averaged 95.5 points in the two home matchups with Los Angeles a season ago.

The WNBA betting line lists the Aces as a nearly 20-point favorite.

According to the WNBA odds, Las Vegas is first at +110 in the odds of winning the WNBA title. Los Angeles is ahead of only the Chicago Sky and the Washington Mystics in the championship odds.

Quite a Baptism for Sparks Rookies Brink, Jackson

The Sparks allowed Tina Charles, who didn’t play in the WNBA during the 2023 season, to go off for 21 points and 14 rebounds in a season-opening loss to the Atlanta Dream. What will it look like when Los Angeles tries to deal with A’ja Wilson, quite possibly the best player in the world?

Rookies Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson combined for 18 points in 38 minutes in their first WNBA regular-season game. Offense is not the concern. Can they step up defensively against a Las Vegas team that has won the last two WNBA titles?

Dearica Hamby spent the first eight years of her WNBA career playing for the Aces franchise, dating back to when they were headquartered in San Antonio. She had 20 points, 14 rebounds three assists and two steals in the season opener. She had only four points and one rebound the last time she played in Las Vegas.

Will PG Gray Be Back on the Court for Las Vegas?

The Aces played without point guard Chelsea Gray in the season opener and she is considered to be a game-time decision for Saturday’s matchup.

Veteran Alysha Clark stepped into the starting lineup and finished with eight points as well as seven rebounds in an 89-80 win over Phoenix. She didn’t need to contribute much offensively with A’ja Wilson, listed by the sportsbook odds as the WNBA MVP favorite, having 30 points and 13 rebounds while the backcourt of Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum combined for 42 points and 11 assists.

The Las Vegas players not named Wilson, Young and Plum scored a combined 17 points on 5-of-13 shooting.

Sparks vs Aces Injury Update

Gray is questionable for the Aces while Azura Stevens, one of three returning double-digit scorers for the Sparks, is out.

Sparks vs Aces Best Bet: Aces To Pour It On

Las Vegas began its quest for a repeat for a tougher-than-anticipated win in the season opener against the Phoenix Mercury. It looked like Las Vegas would have little trouble covering when the Aces outscored the Brittney Griner-less Mercury 29-14 in the first quarter. However, Phoenix outscored Las Vegas 66-60 the rest of the way to cover as the road underdog.

While the Aces typically get stronger as the season moves along, much of the early money has been landing on the Aces to cover this time.

The Aces have covered in eight of their last 12 games against the Sparks.

With 13 wins in the last 14 home games against Los Angeles, it isn’t a case of whether the Aces will win, but by how much on Saturday in the second half of a nationally televised doubleheader.

Five of the last seven games between the Sparks and the Aces went under WNBA over/under picks total and it would be in the best interest of visiting Los Angeles for the pace to be a bit slower in this matchup. The best option would be to take this gamer to finish over the total.

The Sparks are 6-2-1 against the spread in their last nine road games but that might be asking a bit much for that trend to continue with four of the seven players who were on the court for at least 10 minutes in the season opener taking part in just their second game with Los Angeles.
