Dallas Eyeing Second Road Win

Connecticut Looks To Stay On Top of the Eastern Conference

Plenty has changed since the Wings and Sun met in the 2022 playoffs. Five of the nine Dallas players who appeared in that game are no longer with the Wings and that included Tyasha Harris, who is now a member of the Connecticut Sun. Six of the 10 players for the Sun have moved on. That won’t make things easy for those making WNBA predictions.

The Wings are the second-highest scoring team in the WNBA. However, they are coming off a season-low 74 points in a loss to Washington as Dallas shot just 34.2% from the field. The Sun is coming off a five-point win at Minnesota despite being outscored 22-10 at the foul line

When looking at the WNBA news, Dallas and Connecticut have split the last six games. The road team has won five of the last eight games in the series and that includes the last two games. Eight of the last 11 games between the teams finished under the total.

Dallas continues to be without rookie Lou Lopez-Senechal, Diamond DeShields and Teiara McCowan. Connecticut is in a better situation from an injury standpoint. Keep that in mind when making WNBA picks. The Sun just signed post player Elizabeth Dixon.

Connecticut’s Alyssa Thomas has moved from +2500 to +600 in the WNBA Most Valuable Player odds since the season began. Arike Ogunbowale comes in at +2200 in the MVP odds.

According to the WNBA playoff odds, Connecticut (+2500) was fifth in the odds to win the WNBA title when the season began. Dallas (+3000) was tied for sixth in the championship odds at the beginning of the season.

Looking to Find the Range

Dallas guard Arike Ogunbowale is first in the WNBA in scoring, averaging 22.4 points per game. However, it has taken Ogunbowale taking the most shots in the league for her to pile up those points.

The former Notre Dame star is shooting a career-low 36.6% from the field and her 30.6% mark from 3-point range is also the lowest of her five-year career.

Ogunbowale has made just 13 of 41 shots in the last two games. She averaged 17.3 points in the three regular-season meetings with Connecticut last season and has four career 20-point games against Connecticut.

Dallas has covered against the WNBA betting lines in just two of its last six games.

Thomas Doing It All

The coaching change as well as the departure of teammates Jonquel Jones, Jasmine Thomas and Courtney Williams has not stopped veteran Connecticut forward Alyssa Thomas.

In her last two games, Thomas had a game with 17 rebounds against Indiana and followed that up with a 16-assist performance against Minnesota. Thomas came one rebound shy of her first triple-double of the season as she could be playing the best basketball of her career under first-year Sun coach Stephanie White. Thomas is second in the WNBA in rebounding and fourth in assists.

Thomas averaged 11.3 points, 8 rebounds and 4.7 assists in the three games against Dallas in the 2022 playoffs. She flirted with a triple-double with 13 points, eight rebounds and nine assists in the first of six meetings against Dallas during the 2022 season.

Something to consider for those who bet online: Connecticut is 14-7 against the spread in its last 21 games.

Wings vs Sun Picks and Prediction

While the high-scoring Ogunbowale is a headliner for Dallas, it could be fun watching the two frontcourts go head-to-head with Thomas joined by DeWanna Bonner and Brionna Jones. Dallas has one of the top 1-2 post tandems in the WNBA in Satou Sabally and Natasha Howard.

Eight of the last nine games between Dallas and Connecticut have been decided by double digits. It remains to be seen if that will happen on Sunday.

Since the Wings franchise moved from Tulsa, Connecticut is 10-2 at home against Dallas. Connecticut is just 6-5-1 against the WNBA spreads in those games.
