A Wednesday doubleheader in the WNBA sees two potentially lopsided matchups as the Chicago Sky (1-0) take on the Atlanta Dream (0-1), while the Connecticut Sun (2-0) face the Indiana Fever (0-2). Chicago is a -250 betting favorite while Connecticut is -265. The comeback on Atlanta is +210 and +225 on Indiana.
The Sky are one of the WNBA’s premier defensive teams and should pound the rebuilding Dream while the Sun have been red-hot on the other end and should live up to their moniker in torching the Fever.
Sky to Soar Past Rebuilding Atlanta
The Chicago Sky are entering the third year of the James Wade era, where they’ve compiled a 32-24 record in two seasons with two playoff appearances. This season would be special for Chicago, which is welcoming superstar forward Candace Parker, a Chicago native herself.

Parker could be the missing piece that the Sky need to break through and win it all this season. The two-time MVP is coming off a bounce-back year last season where she posted 14.7 points and a league-leading 9.7 rebounds with 4.6 assists.
With guard Courtney Vandersloot and G/F Kahleah Cooper, the Sky have their own “Big Three” plus young star G Diamond DeShields off the bench. But as spectacular as the Sky’s stars can appear, this team remains focused on defense.
The Sky will look to continue improving from their fifth-best defensive rating last season. Chicago’s tough perimeter defense and staunch rebounding can only improve with the addition of Parker. They should be too much for the Dream to handle.
Atlanta is a rebuilding team and could finish last in the WNBA. They finished with a 7-15 record last season and allowed the second-most points with a -8.3 net rating. Their old bench boss, Nicki Colleen, suddenly left the team to coach Baylor further leaving the team in disarray.
As far as WNBA basketball lines go, the Sky may as well be 4-1 favorites.
Pick: Chicago Sky -250
Connecticut Ousts Indiana
Maybe the Indiana Fever will be inspired by their NBA counterparts’ blowout win over Charlotte, but they’re having a rough start to the season. They got handled by a returning Sabrina Ionescu and now they get a title contender in Connecticut.
Indiana finished second to last in the WNBA last season and signed a few key free agents like F Jantel Lavender while drafting West Virginia star Kysre Gondrezick. The Fever will be improved, but this is still mostly the same team that allowed the most points last season while committing the second-most turnovers.
Connecticut looks even hungrier this season as the team once again fell short in the playoffs. But in Curt Miller’s sixth season with the team, the Sun are 2-0 with a +12.5 net rating. F/G DeWanna Bonner and F Jonquel Jones are on a tear, combining for 88 points in their last two games.
The Sun handled the star-studded Phoenix Mercury by playing more aggressively and attacking the boards. They’ll look to bring that same energy against the Fever, who should be a scrappy underdog but will ultimately wilt to the heat of the Sun.
