Brahmas Look to Slay Best for XFL Postseason Berth
The San Antonio Brahmas managed to keep their head above water in Week 9 with a 25-23 win over the Orlando Guardians. Despite a 3-6 record, San Antonio remains alive for the final playoff spot in the XFL South. To make the postseason, the Brahmas must slay the XFL’s best, the D.C. Defenders (8-1).
The sportsbook anticipates this matchup to be close with the Defenders favored by three points. D.C. is 1-2 against the spread (ATS) in the last three games. Will San Antonio hand the Defenders their second loss of the season?
D.C. Declining Ahead of Playoffs?
According to XFL lines, the Defenders are the favorites to win the championship (+110). D.C. is locked into the playoffs with the home-field advantage. However, it allowed 30.5 points per game in the last four.
This should sound off the alarms as the Defenders have been in back-and-forth affairs every week. They needed overtime to beat the Arlington Renegades in Week 9 as 8½-point favorites. Don’t forget the lone loss for D.C. was also the Orlando Guardians’ only win of the season. The Brahmas rank second-to-last in points per game, but the Renegades scored 26 against the Defenders as the XFL’s worst offense. D.C. has major defensive concerns that must be addressed.
XFL picks continue to back the Defenders due to their elite offense, which leads the league in points and rushing yards per game. However, the run game also has concerns after averaging 2.5 yards per carry in the last two games.
Brahmas Offense Shows Promise
San Antonio will need help to make the postseason. It must beat the Defenders and the Renegades must lose. Arlington faces the South’s top team in the Houston Roughnecks. Taking down D.C. is a tall ask, but if the Brahmas pull it off, their chances look good. According to Las Vegas XFL odds, the Renegades are favored by one point against the Roughnecks.
It’s unlikely San Antonio would make much noise in the postseason as the last choice in online gambling to win the title (+4500). However, who knows in this wild and inconsistent league? The Brahmas have dealt with quarterback issues most of the season. Jack Coan ranks last in passer rating. His recent performance with 302 yards while completing 25 of 31 passes provides hope. Is San Antonio’s offense finally turning the corner?
