Brahmas Battle for Playoff Hopes

The Orlando Guardians (1-7) and the San Antonio Brahmas (2-6) conclude the XFL’s doubleheader on Saturday. While this seems like an underwhelming matchup for a Saturday night game, it will have an impact on the postseason.

The Guardians and Brahmas sit at the bottom of XFL South. Orlando has been eliminated from playoff contention, but San Antonio still has an outside shot. The Brahmas must win out for a chance, increasing the stakes of Saturday’s matchup. Here’s everything to know before placing your XFL picks.

Guardians Look to Play Spoiler

After going 3-0 ATS from Week 5 to Week 7, Las Vegas odds favored Orlando for the first time in Week 8. The Guardians took a step back with an 18-16 loss against the Arlington Renegades. The run game totaled only 25 rushing yards on 1.6 yards per carry. The offense must pursue balance, as quarterback Quinten Dormady has shouldered the load.

The loss also officially eliminated Orlando from the postseason. Making the playoffs was already a long shot, and the sportsbook had the Guardians as the last choice to win the championship most of the season. Now, Orlando can play spoiler by ending the Brahmas’ postseason chances.

The Guardians should look to get the run game going, but San Antonio ranks third in allowed rushing yards. It also ranks third in allowed pass yards. Orlando’s offense has a tall task ahead against one of the league’s top defenses.

Quarterback Carousel

It’s now or never for San Antonio. To make the postseason, the Brahmas must win out while the Renegades lose out. It looks unlikely, and don’t expect them to make much noise if they get there. In fact, XFL lines have San Antonio as the last choice to win the championship by a wide margin (+5000).

After allowing 26 points against the Vegas Vipers in Week 7, the defense bounced back in the 17-15 loss against the Houston Roughnecks. The unit allowed only 146 pass yards and held Houston to 1.9 yards per carry.

However, the offense remains a big concern. The quarterback position has been a revolving door. Jawon Pass got time in Week 6. Kurt Benkert took over in Week 7 and looked solid but sustained a season-ending ribs injury. The job fell back to Jack Coan in Week 8, and he struggled at 4.6 yards per passing attempt with two interceptions. Keep an eye on XFL news for Week 9’s starter. Pass could take over once again.

Guardians vs Brahmas Head-to-Head

San Antonio dominated in Week 2’s matchup with a 30-12 win. Orlando struggled against the Brahmas’ formidable defense with only 175 yards.

Worth Betting ATS?

The Guardians are back in the underdog role, with Las Vegas XFL odds favoring the Brahmas by two points. Quarterback play could decide this matchup. Dormady ranks third in passer rating, while San Antonio’s starter is unclear. If it’s Coan, he ranks last in passer rating. Pass has yet to start a full game, which could also spell trouble. Take Orlando to cover.

Worth Betting on the Totals?

This matchup has the smallest total of the week at 39. The Brahmas feature one of the league’s top defenses, and the Guardians’ offense lacks balance. On the other side of the ball, San Antonio has major QB problems, which should lead to few points. Despite the small total, the under still looks promising.
