One-Loss Teams Searching for Signature Win

The XFL’s slate of Week 4 games is headlined by a battle between the Arlington Renegades (2-1) and St. Louis Battlehawks (2-1). Arlington comes off a close 10-9 win over the Orlando Guardians while St. Louis suffered its first loss of the season against the D.C. Defenders.

The XFL championship seems to be a two-horse race between the Defenders and Houston Roughnecks. However, this matchup could change that. The Renegades and Battlehawks are seeking a signature win that will vault them into the championship conversation. Check out the latest XFL news surrounding both teams heading into Sunday’s clash.

Are the Renegades Pretenders?

Despite a 2-1 record, plenty of questions surround Arlington. Both of the Renegades’ wins were close calls against the worst teams in the XFL – the Vegas Vipers and Guardians. Plus, their sole loss was not close against the Roughnecks (23-14). Arlington is in the position to appear in the four-team playoff and is +600 to win the championship, per XFL lines. However, there’s a lot of work to do.

The offense is a major concern after three games. It mustered only 10 points against Orlando, which allowed 31.5 points per game in the first two games. The Renegades are last at 359 total passing yards. Kyle Sloter took over as starting quarterback in Week 3 but did nothing special.

The run game continued its struggles at 2.4 yards per carry. Arlington’s 190 rushing yards and 2.5 yards per carry are the worst marks in the league. The Battlehawks surrendered 34 points last week, but there are no guarantees that the Renegades’ offense will produce.

Avoiding Arlington in online sports betting has become a common practice.

Battlehawks Run Out of McCarron Magic

St. Louis would have loved to come out with a dub in Week 3. However, the Battlehawks still performed well in the 34-28 loss against the Defenders, who could be the best team in the XFL. Outside of D.C. and Houston, St. Louis is the only other team with a reasonable shot at a championship. The sportsbook has it as the third choice (+450).

The passing game had another strong showing against the Defenders as QB A.J. McCarron posted 262 yards. Plus, wide receiver Hakeem Butler dominated with 105 receiving yards.

However, turnovers bit the Battlehawks in the end. They had four turnovers, including two interceptions from McCarron. It was especially costly when the defense managed to force three turnovers. If the offense took care of the battle, St. Louis would likely be sitting pretty at 3-0.

The Renegades’ defense will be a tough matchup as it has eight forced turnovers in three games.

Renegades vs Battlehawks Picks and Prediction

Predicted Score: Battlehawks 19, Renegades 17

Worth Betting ATS?

Following a three-game road trip, Sunday will be the Battlehawks’ home opener. Meanwhile, the Renegades are 0-1 outright and against the spread (ATS) in away games.

Arlington’s offense is incapable of keeping pace with McCarron and Co. Fortunately, St. Louis has failed to avoid turnovers while the Renegades’ defense has a nose for the ball. Sport bets favoring Arlington have not been lucrative as it is 0-3 ATS. However, turnovers can keep the Renegades in this one. Take the underdog.

Worth Betting the Totals?

This matchup features the lowest projected total of the week at 36½. A low-scoring game would favor the Renegades. With that in mind, I am leaning toward the under. However, this is a tough bet; there are more favorable XFL picks available in Week 4.
