The Arlington Renegades (2-2) and San Antonio Brahmas (1-3) have struggled leading up to their Week 5 matchup. Both teams are hoping to make the XFL playoffs, which feature four teams. However, Las Vegas XFL odds have Arlington and San Antonio’s championship odds at +1100 or lower.
The Renegades are 1-2 over the last three, while the Brahmas are on a two-game losing streak. Both are also 0-2 against the spread (ATS) in the last two. Which team will break through in this week’s XFL picks?
Renegades Reliant on Defense
There are serious concerns about the Renegades. Their two wins were against the XFL’s worst teams that are winless – the Vegas Vipers and Orlando Guardians. In Week 3, Arlington’s offense was dysfunctional with 10 points in a one-point win over the Guardians. Then, the Renegades were easily handled by the St. Louis Battlehawks in Week 4 with a 24-11 loss. Favoring Arlington in online gambling could be a big mistake.
The offense has not scored more than 14 points since Week 1 against the Vipers, who have perhaps the league’s worst defense. The Renegades are averaging 10.5 points in the last two. Arlington has tried different quarterbacks, giving Kyle Sloter and Drew Plitt equal chances. Both have failed, as the Renegades rank last with 550 passing yards.
The failing passing attack has dominated Arlington’s XFL news, but the defense has stayed steady. The Renegades are still in the position to make the playoffs with second place in the XFL South.
Brahmas’ Offense a Disaster
With a win over Arlington, the Brahmas would be tied for second in the South. This would put San Antonio in the prime position to compete for a playoff spot. The sportsbooks championship odds will surely shift if the Brahmas get it done.
San Antonio is having similar problems to the Renegades. After scoring 30 points in Week 2, the Brahmas are averaging 9.5 points in the last two. Quarterback Jack Coan has not produced. A change at signal-caller could be imminent. San Antonio ranks second-to-last with 569 passing yards. It has talented running backs in Jacques Patrick and Kalen Ballage, but the team averages 3.1 yards per carry.
The Brahmas will continue to lean on their defense. The Houston Roughnecks, the league’s top team, are the only squad to reach 20 points against San Antonio. Cornerback Luq Barcoo has been one of the XFL’s top defensive players.
