Renegades Look to Lasso Playoff Spot
The final week of the XFL regular season could be the best yet, as every game features high stakes with teams jockeying for playoff positioning. Sunday’s in-state battle between the Houston Roughnecks (6-3) and Arlington Renegades (4-5) could be the highlight.
Houston clinched a postseason berth several weeks ago, but Arlington is still fighting for the last spot in the XFL South. With a San Antonio loss on Saturday or a Renegades win the next day, Arlington is in.
After failing to cover four consecutive point spreads, the Roughnecks got back on track with a 28-21 win over the Vegas Vipers in Week 9. This highly anticipated battle has the sportsbook’s lowest spread of the week with Arlington favored by one point.
Houston’s Scoring Problems Still Present
From Week 5 to Week 8, Houston scored under 20 points in three of four games. This was a sharp drop in production after averaging 30.5 points in the first four games. The Roughnecks’ 28 points in Week 9 was their highest total since Week 4. However, this score was deceiving, as the defense scored two touchdowns on fumble returns.
There are still several problems on offense, mainly quarterback Brandon Silvers. He struggled once again with only 105 passing yards. Silvers now ranks second-to-last in passer rating. According to XFL lines, the Roughnecks are the second choice to win the XFL championship (+200). After going 1-4 ATS in the last five games with scoring woes, backing Houston in XFL picks is risky.
The Roughnecks found success on the ground with 132 yards on 5.1 yards per carry. However, the Renegades feature the league’s best run defense. Is Houston in store for another poor offensive showing?
Perez Sparks Renegades Offense
Arlington nearly took down the XFL’s top team in Week 9. However, it fell short with a 28-26 overtime loss against the D.C. Defenders. The Renegades would have clinched a postseason berth with a win. It’s now or never in Week 10.
Arlington is in with a win or San Antonio Brahmas loss (on Saturday). The Renegades losing combined with a Brahmas win is the only way they fall short. Las Vegas XFL odds have San Antonio as three-point underdogs against the Defenders on Saturday. Arlington’s chances look good, but why leave it up to fate? The Renegades control their own destiny. Take down the Roughnecks and their problems are solved.
The offense made significant strides in Week 9. Quarterback Luis Perez erupted for 335 passing yards, and this was the first time Arlington reached 20 points since Week 1. Pass protection could be the biggest key against Houston. The Roughnecks totaled five sacks in Week 2’s matchup.

- Worth Betting ATS?
Keep an eye on XFL news, as there is a chance Houston could rest some players. The Renegades are firmly in the playoffs with home advantage, so why risk injuries? This would greatly boost the Renegades’ chances of winning. Either way, Arlington has much more to play for with its season on the line. Bad weather also favors the Renegades, as they have the XFL’s top run defense. Look for Arlington to cover the spread.
- Worth Betting on the Totals?
This game could be like watching paint dry. Rain and strong winds could erase any chance of down-the-field throws. Neither team has a strong run game. In fact, both rank in the bottom half of rushing yards per game. Plus, both squads are in the top three of allowed rushing yards per game. Take the under in your sports bets.
