Jacks or Better Game from TLM General Information

Game Guide

The classic video poker game Jacks or Better is based on five card draw poker. The game sets up almost exactly like five card draw poker but while in draw poker, the most cards that a player can exchange is three, in Jacks or Better, after making a wager, the player can decide to exchange all five cards.

In Jacks or Better, payouts start at a pair of Jacks and work its way all the way up to the best possible hand in poker, the Royal Flush.

How to Play

The player first must decide to bet one of the units or the max units. In the online casino, the minimum credit bet is 25 cents. The player can bet the maximum, $10, on each game. To Bet Max, the player will want to change the coin value from 25 cents up to $2. The max coins played is 5. So, if the coin value is changed up to the max, $2 per coin, then 5 x $2 is $10.

Once the player has decided what value coin and to play one unit or the max units, the player hits the deal button. Five cards, like in five card draw, will appear. The player then decides what cards to hold. The player can decide to hold all five cards or exchange up to all five cards. Once the player receives the new cards, the game is over with the player being paid out according to the payout table.

Strategy/Tips

Based on the above table, the player will always want to play the max but be cognizant of their coin value. The more coins that you play the more you are likely to win. Playing only 1 coin per game isn’t going to help you much. Playing the max gives you the best chance for a sweet score, especially when you start hitting the Full House or higher.

The key is to understand your coin unit. If you’re only playing 25 cents, then playing the max coins equates to betting $1.25 per game. If you’re playing a dollar, then the max coins equates to $5 per game. The most important part of Jacks or Better is money management and having a grasp on how your per unit coin choice affects your overall game play and your bankroll.

If you decide to start with $100, then playing the max, $2 per coin unit and 5 coins per game, equates to $10 played per game, which is 10 games played unless you win more coins. You can increase the games played to 20 by changing the unit to $1 per coin unit and 5 coins played per game: 5 coins played per game at $1 per coin = $1 x 5 = $5. $100 (100 games) / 5 = 20 games.
