Emerald Downs Racing Schedule & the Longacres Mile
Emerald Downs racing starts in May. There are two-day weeks on Saturday and Sunday in the first month of the meet. When the calendar turns to June, there are three race days a week to watch Emerald Downs horse racing. In August, the race calendar reverts to a two-day week. The final weekend of the year is in September, and it is a three-day weekend, with the final day being Labor Day.
The Longacres Mile
The Longacres Mile has become well known and respected in the horse racing industry. The stake. It began in 1935 and was a handicap race through 1992. From 1993-95, it took place at Yakima Downs. Since 1996, it has been at Emerald Downs.
Five horses have won the race twice, most recently Five Star General in 2023 and ‘24. It brings together the best horses in the region to battle over eight furlongs, which is one mile. The Longacres Mile carried a purse of between $200,000 and $250,000 for many years. Recently, it has gone for $150,000. Last year, Arrowthegreat won the $125,000 event.
