Glasnow, Dodgers Solid Bet As Home Favorite Against Braves

With rosters full of proven MLB hitters, it was 23-year-old rookie outfielder Andy Pages who came through with the game-winning hit in the 11th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers topped the visiting Atlanta Braves in the opening game of a series between two National League title contenders. The Dodgers are listed by our sportsbook as the favorite yet again in Game 2 of the series.

The Dodgers have won the last two games against the Braves after Atlanta had won five in a row against Los Angeles. It was the third straight matchup between the teams to finish under the MLB against the spread picks.

The MLB betting lines have the Dodgers priced at -180 to win Game 2 in the series with +115 odds to cover at -1½ on the run line. The Braves have +1645 odds to win the game outright.

When looking at MLB futures odds, the Dodgers and Braves are first and second at +325 and +450 in the odds of winning the World Series.

Braves vs Dodgers Odds and Spreads

Glasnow Gets the Call

After solid outings by starting pitchers Charlie Morton and Gavin Stone in Friday’s series opener, the hitters might have a hard time. Bryce Elder is set to make his third start while MLB strikeout leader Tyler Glasnow gets the start for the Dodgers.

Glasnow has allowed one run and struck out 19 over 14 innings in his last two starts. He won both games to improve to 5-1. The last time he faced the Braves, he allowed two hits, two runs (one earned), and struck out eight in 5⅔ innings but took the loss in a 2-1 game.

Elder isn’t going to pile up the strikeouts like Glasnow with six in 12 innings in his first two starts but it is hard to argue with a 1-0 record and 1.50 ERA in the first two outings of the season. Elder did not figure into the decision in his last appearance against the Dodgers despite holding the powerful Dodgers lineup to one run in six innings.

Trying to Reclaim the Top Spot

With a win by the Phillies and the Braves falling to the Dodgers, Atlanta fell out of first place in the National League East Division despite a 20-10 record that would have the Braves in first place in every other MLB division.

The Braves didn’t lose back-to-back games in the first 26 games of the season but they have dropped three of their last four. Atlanta has been held to three runs or fewer in each of its last four losses.

Atlanta was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left five runners on base in the opener. Michael Harris II is hitting .095, Orlando Arcia is batting .091 with power hitters Marcell Ozuna and Matt Olson a combined 5-for-40 with 12 strikeouts over the last six games.

Keep that in mind when considering player prop bets in this game.

Is Betts a Best Bet?

Despite going 0-for-5 in the series opener, Mookie Betts continues to lead the majors in OPS and is the front-runner in the National League Most Valuable Player odds.

After having 15 hits in an eight-game hitting streak, Betts had been held without a hit in three of his last four games. He hit .333 with nine runs, a double, two home runs, and seven RBIs in seven games against the Braves last year. He is 2-for-5 with a home run in his career against Elder.

Pitchers Ryan Brasier, Connor Brogdon, Brusdar Graterol and Blake Treinen are on the injured list for the Dodgers while outfielder Jason Heyward is out.

What to Look for

These are two of the top three teams in the majors in team batting average. However, the Braves and the Dodgers combined for just four runs through the first nine innings in the series opener. Three of those runs came with solo home runs.

There is only a 3% chance of rain for Saturday’s matchup.

The road team is 6-3 in the last nine games in this series.

The total has gone over in nine of the last 13 home games for the Dodgers. The total is set at 9 for this matchup. With Elder and Glasnow pitching, it might be a challenge for this game to go over the total.
