Nationals Heating Up on The Road

For the third time in four games, the Washington Nationals scored double-figure runs in a road win on Tuesday. Washington entered the game averaging an MLB-high 6.4 runs on the road, then scored 10 thanks in part to home runs by Juan Soto and Josh Bell.

“For me, you can never score enough runs in this ballpark,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said after Tuesday’s win. “The big thing, like we talked about, you score early but you’ve got to keep working good at-bats. They did that tonight. It was awesome to see Juan hit the ball like he did today and Bell going the other way. We’ve got another game tomorrow and we’ll try to repeat.”

Bell has been hot of late with three doubles and a home run over his last five games. The first baseman is batting .366 with six doubles, three home runs, 18 RBIs, and 16 runs scored.

Soto has been heating up, following up a 3-for-5 game against San Francisco on Sunday with Tuesday’s home run. Soto is batting .258 with four doubles, five home runs, six RBIs, and 19 runs scored.

Left-hander Patrick Corbin will try to turn things around on Wednesday night as he makes his sixth start of the season. Corbin is 0-4 with an 8.69 ERA and has allowed multiple runs in each of his starts. He took the loss in his last outing, going a season-high six innings against the Miami Marlins on Thursday and allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out eight and walking two.

Rockies Looking for Better Pitching

Playing in Denver, the Colorado Rockies expect to have some high-scoring games, by both themselves and the opposition; but when the offense isn’t scoring, the team’s pitching needs to be better than it was on Tuesday night.

Left-hander Austin Gomber will get the call to start in the second game of the series, bringing a 1-2 record and 3.86 ERA to his fifth start of the season. Gomber took the loss in his last start, going six innings against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday and allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits, including a home run while striking out six and walking one.

A bright spot of Tuesday’s loss was first baseman C.J. Cron connecting for his ninth home run of the season, which is tied for the top spot in baseball. Cron is batting .307 with five doubles, a triple, 22 RBIs (second in the majors), and 14 runs scored.

Outfielder Randal Grichuk has also been hitting the ball well, batting .333 and coming into this game on a four-game hitting streak. Grichuk has three doubles, three home runs, 15 RBIs, and 10 runs scored.

Nationals vs Rockies Head-to-Head

The Colorado Rockies have won the majority of the games played between these two teams at Coors Field in each of the last three seasons they’ve played (the two teams didn’t play in 2020). The Washington Nationals have managed just a single win in each of the last three series played in Colorado, so they’re hoping to change that trend on Wednesday.

Colorado won the season series 4-2 last season, taking both series played between the two teams. The Rockies are getting the edge when looking at the MLB lines for this game.

Nationals vs Rockies Prediction

The Colorado Rockies had been hot prior to Tuesday’s loss, and that should return with Corbin on the mound. The Washington Nationals are going to score some runs as well, but we like the Rockies to even up this series on Wednesday

When making your MLB picks, take Colorado to pick up the home win.
