Stanionis Heavy Favorite in Rematch vs Maestre (But Should You Bet?)

As they turn back the hands of time, Eimantas Stanionis and Gabriel Maestre will trade leather like they once did on the amateurs in 2025. However, the stakes are much higher under the bright lights of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as their rivalry resurfaces with gold on the line.

Despite going to a closely fought split decision in their first meeting, Las Vegas boxing odds have placed Stanionis as a significant betting favorite. Do we agree? There’s only one way to find out; read our complete breakdown of this WBA “Regular” welterweight clash below.

Stanionis vs Maestre Odds

Stanionis Returns from a Two-Year Hiatus

29-year-old Eimantas Stanionis is one of the brightest prospects fighting out of Lithuania, boasting an unblemished 14-0 record and a 64% knockout rate. Unfortunately, two intended scraps with Vergil Ortiz Jr. eventually fizzled, and we haven’t seen him in competitive action since 2022.

With that said, his boxing smarts were on display last time out, as he totally out-witted a tough Radzhab Butaev for the WBA title. Although ring rust might be a concern, he should certainly have confidence in replicating a result he achieved at the tender age of 20.

Maestre Seeks Redemption With an Old Foe

Maestre first met Stanionis during the AIBA Championships in Qatar in 2015. This amateur bout became an instant classic, and with just a split decision separating the two, the Venezuelan pugilist has his chance to redeem past mistakes and become a welterweight champion.

Aged 37, he didn’t reach the professional scene until his thirties, and despite a handful of setbacks, he recently triumphed against former titleholder Devon Alexander before defying the odds and claiming victory against a young hotshot, Travon Marshall.

Maestre Waited 10 Years for This Moment

During his arrival at the MGM Grand this past Tuesday, Mastre highlighted the wait he’s endured for this rematch:

“You think he’s the only one trying to come with aggression? I’ve been waiting for 10 years to face this guy. Before, in the amateurs, 10 years ago, it was a close fight. I lost, and I’ve been waiting for the rematch ever since – a decade in the making, and I can’t wait.”

Stanionis v Maestre Skillset Analysis

Stanionis and Maestre have evident respective amateur and Olympic pedigrees. While they’re both in similar positions, you can’t help but notice the eight-year age gap, which unquestionably favors the champion.

Both fighters can be stagnant in their footwork and throw caution to the wind by throwing powerful strikes but on a defensive stance, Stanionis is the more capable. In addition, Maestre can be quick and predictable, and when boxing fundamentals come into question, the underdog once again falls short of the defending champ.

Maestre has proven his durability, returning from a knockdown and pulling off a huge upset. However, replicating this same outcome seems unlikely, especially when the stakes are so high, and we should expect both men on their A-game.

Stanionis and Maestre at the Sportsbook

The -1400 betting line on Stanionis is ridiculous, even for those who believe he’s the rightful favorite. He’s yet to answer questions as a defending champion competing over 12 rounds, and the dog in Maestre shouldn’t be overlooked with such a price discrepancy.

I expect Stanionis to wear on Maestre eventually, but much like their amateur meeting from 2015, it will take the judge’s opinion to separate these two. As a result, backing the over 9 ½ rounds at nearly even money is a piece of value you won’t find backing Stanionis outright or taking a risk on an aging dog.

My Best Bet: Over 9½ Rounds (-120)

  • Both fighters are undefeated during their professional careers
  • Stanionis has gone the distance in two of his three previous bouts
  • Maestre has gone the distance in two of his previous four bouts
