Cleveland has Pitching Edge in Game 2 of Series
Cleveland Looks to Bounce Back
The visiting Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners continue their four-game series after the home team took Game 1 on Thursday. Shane Bieber (8-7) will try to get Cleveland back on track, while Logan Gilbert (10-5) tries to work through some recent control issues for Seattle. This game is almost a dead heat on the MLB odds board.
The Indians own a four-game lead atop the American League Central while the Mariners are holding down the final wild card spot.
Let’s check the latest MLB news, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Guardians vs Mariners. We’ve plenty of MLB picks & predictions.
Gilbert Laboring Through August
Gilbert has been phenomenal in his second season with Seattle with a 3.52 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 262.2 innings. However, that was until recently, when his season took a quick downturn. Gilbert’s ERA in August is an abysmal 7.97, and he’s allowed multiple earned runs in his last six consecutive starts.
Gilbert also struggles at home with a 4.06 ERA when compared to his mark on the road of 3.15. In 10 home starts, Gibert is 4-4 with 26 earned runs allowed in 57.2 innings. He only has 18 all-time at-bats against this lineup with a combined .222 batting average and .611 On-base Plus Slugging (OPS).
Things won’t be easy for Gilbert on Friday, with the Guardians ranking ninth in batting average at .252 and eighth in hits per game (8.61). They don’t hit for much power, but the Guardians know how to get on base and rank third in stolen bases per game. Cleveland is pesky and is the kind of team a struggling pitcher doesn’t want to see.
Bieber Cruising
Bieber will make his 24th start and has a 3.10 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 145 innings. Since the beginning of August, Cleveland’s ace has been a force with a 1.71 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. He allowed six earned runs in his last six games combined with a 4-1 record.
Bieber’s history against the current Mariners lineup is outstanding as well. In 64 all-time at-bats, the M’s have a .234 average and .592 OPS against Bieber, with 24 strikeouts and one home run. The Mariners have a feeble offense this season, ranking 24th in average and 23rd in runs per game. The only thing they do well on offense is walk, something that is not an issue with Gilbert.
Guardians vs Mariners Head-to-Head
Friday marks the second time the Cleveland Guardians and Mariners play this season after Thursday’s 3-1 win by Seattle. The pair met seven times in 2021, with the Seattle Mariners winning the season series 5-2 outright and against the spread.

Guardians vs Mariners Prediction
This game is expected to be tight. While Bieber has been steady all year, Gilbert’s ship is sinking. With Seattle’s soft offense, the Guardians are too good a bet to pass up to close out the week.
