Oilers in Pole Position
The Edmonton Oilers have turned the tables on the Pacific Division champions by taking a commanding 3-1 series lead.
At the start of this series, the Oilers were tipped at a conspicuous disadvantage across the NHL betting board. Based on the then-market outlook, it’s safe to say that the Oilers weren’t expected to advance to the Western Conference final at the expense of the Calgary Flames.
Well, four games into the series and Edmonton is literally on the cusp of delivering a significant upset. The Oilers are ahead 3-1, riding a three-game winning steak no less.
Few would have predicted that the Oilers would be in such a position after the Flames took the 9-6 win in the first game of this series. Calgary looked unstoppable.

Flames Lose Three in Row
The Calgary Flames seemed to have this series in hand after the first game, but somehow they let it slip through their fingers since then. Now they’re in a 3-1 hole and faced with a must-win game on Thursday night at the Saddledome.
If the Flames are to salvage this series, they must win out. Oddsmakers are giving them the edge as they make the trek back to Calgary, where the Battle of Alberta series got off to a positive start for the Pacific Divsion champions. However, it’s going to be a tough ask despite their favorable odds.
The last two games have seen the Flames get off to poor starts from which they never recovered.
In Game 3, the Flames conceded four goals in the second period and they never threatened in a 4-1 loss.
In Game 4, they conceded three goals in the first period and consequently played catch-up. All told, they succumbed to the 5-3 loss.
“We know we played well today. The game could’ve gone either way.”

Oilers vs Flames Prediction
For the longest time, the Edmonton Oilers were praised for their regular-season output and criticized for their shortcomings in the postseason. This time around, however, they seem to have answered their biggest critics as they’re on the cups of advancing into the third round of the playoffs.
The Oilers were deemed as the underdogs according to NHL series prices right from the start. They came into the Battle of Alberta as the +170 underdogs and then saw their odds almost double after Game 1. Now, following three consecutive wins, they’re in the pole position to advance into the conference finals.
NHL betting markets may be cornered with the Calgary Flames for Game 5. When a team is on the ropes, anything can happen. Thus, a Calgary win can’t be ruled out.
However, the Oilers have been more convincing in the last three games. They have the speed, skill and talent to clinch the win. Moreover, they appear to have composure as well. If there’s one thing that has hurt Calgary’s chances so far, it’s undisciplined play and mistakes. Unless the Flames get those in check, the Oilers will advance.
Pick: Edmonton Oilers +130
Pick: Over 6½ (-120)
