Lightweight Contenders Battle
There has been plenty of chatter between Ryan Garcia and Javier Fortuna ahead of the important lightweight clash in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Garcia (22-0) is a confident unbeaten fighter and he’s the current -1000 favorite with boxing betting markets to extend his record. However, Fortuna is a tough fighter who believes he has the edge.
Fortuna is the +600 underdog to get his career back on track. Let’s check the latest boxing news, stats, injury reports and boxing odds for Garcia vs Fortuna. We’ve plenty of boxing picks and predictions for you to consider.
Fortuna Exuding Confidence
It’s not uncommon for boxing underdogs to come out swinging at the press conference, but Fortuna firmly believes Ryan Garcia isn’t all he’s cracked up to be.
The 33-year-old from the Dominican Republic had his chance to win the WBC title against Joseph Diaz last year, but he didn’t take his chances in a close fight.
He then faced Rafael Hernandez in a low-rated fight in February that ended in a first-round knockout, so it was a quick victory for the boxing odds underdog.
He’s confident of beating Garcia in enemy territory.
“Ryan is not as big as what everyone makes him out to be. He doesn’t have the capacity and doesn’t have the talent to beat me. I hope he is ready,” Fortuna told BoxingScene.com.
“Ryan’s speed doesn’t faze me. I know how to take that away from him. I have the experience to do it. You’ll see during fight night. You’ll see my power. I am looking forward to beating him at his house.”
Fortuna is no stranger to fighting quality opponents such as Robert Easter Jr. and Sharif Bogere, so the 37-3-1 fighter shouldn’t be overlooked at the odds.
Garcia Putting on Clinic
There is plenty of hype surrounding Garcia and it doesn’t come as a shock. He’s unbeaten after 22 fights, including 18 knockouts, and he’s only 23 years old.
The Californian has made some quality opponents look second-rate, including Emmanuel Tagoe and Luke Campbell. He scored a convincing win over Tagoe earlier this year and he was close to winning every round.
He has much bigger sights than Fortuna, who is being used as a stepping stone.
“I think it’s pretty obvious where we are headed once we pass Fortuna,” said Garcia. “I am going to campaign for the fight against Gervonta Davis. We want to be transparent about the process to prove to the people that we want this fight. I try to find ways to exploit the truth and clear the fog. I have to be transparent, just like I was with the [Isaac] Cruz negotiations.“
Garcia knocked out back-to-back opponents in 2019 and 2020, so he has power and 18 of his 22 wins have come by knockout. That record is tough to overlook and that’s the reason why betting online markets have him as the overwhelming favorite.

Garcia vs Fortuna Prediction
It’s never easy to bet on -1000 favorites, but Garcia should put Fortuna to bed and secure his 23rd win.
The American was so clinical in his most recent win that we couldn’t bet against the favorite, so include the -1000 in boxing parlays.
We wouldn’t entertain Garcia in knockout markets as the fight could go the distance, so despite the odds being short, snap them up.
