Karmine Corp signs Canna to their roster

Top laner Kim “Canna” Chang-dong has joined Karmine Corp’s League of Legends team. With the LEC 2024 Summer Split, the seasoned Korean laner will take Lucas “Cabochard” Simon-Meslet’s place. Karmine Corp made a roster swap back in April, replacing Chinese jungler Zhou “Bo” Yang-Bo with Can “Closer” Çelik. The former League of Legends player for T1 and Dplus KIA in the Korean League provides his expertise playing on elite teams in the league. Zeus took Canna’s spot on the team after he played alongside Oner, Faker, Gumayusi, Keria, and other active T1 players in 2021.

Canna’s experience

Canna gained much of his notoriety during his tenure on SK Telecom / T1 from 2019 to 2021. But after moving from DAMWON Gaming a little more than a month into his time there, he most recently played for Dplus KIA.

As a laner with an amazing amount of solo kills, Canna has a strong and aggressive reputation. The audience has even given him the nickname “Solo Killing Machine” or “Solo Kill King.” As one of the select handful who won the LCK in their first year of competition, Canna also goes by the unofficial moniker “Royal Roader.” Canna has not had as much success lately, in part because of the teams he has joined since T1.

In 2023, the former star of Korea will join an LEC team making its attempt at an appearance in an international championship. Karmine Corp hopes that a new roster and coaching staff during the Summer Split would help them turn around their dismal record, as they have been the worst team in the league for more than half of the season.

Changes made to the team

The team announced that Canna will be joining Karmine Corp. in place of Cabochard. Along with Cabochard and SAKEN, former 100 Thieves jungler Closer has joined KCorp as their jungler, taking Bo’s place on the team. Bo is currently searching for possibilities. Following their victory in the 2024 LFL Spring Split, the team also promoted Vladimiros “Vladi” Kourtidis, a mid laner from the Karmine Corp Blue academy squad.

Aside from these adjustments, the team has put its trust in Upset and Targamas, the bot lane combination, to bounce back from their subpar performance in the LEC’s last split and attempt to make KCorp fans happy.

The group also made a few minor adjustments to its coaching staff. Following the 2024 LEC Winter Split, Reha took over as the team’s head coach in place of YamatoCannon. Apples has been elevated to assistant coach of the academy squad, with Snaves continuing in his role as assistant coach.

On paper, Karmine’s roster adjustments seem really intriguing, especially the addition of the renowned top laner to help balance out the group. But since this will be Canna’s first overseas assignment away from Korean teams, there’s currently no certainty on how well they will communicate or even mesh together. A fresh jungler and mid laner will also put this roster’s overall top side dynamics to the test.
