Suns Bidding for 2-0 Edge
Game 1 of this series between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Phoenix Suns was just as expected. The Pelicans had to battle their way through a very tough stretch of the regular season and through the play-in tournament just to get here.
Meanwhile, the Suns were sitting at the top of the Western Conference for the majority of the season, got to rest up and play at home.
Phoenix is a much better team overall, but New Orleans has been playing well of late. Can the Pelicans rise up in Game 2? Let’s take a closer look at the NBA game betting odds and determine what’s the best way to go for those who betonline.
Pelicans Swamped Defensively
The Phoenix Suns made it unbelievably difficult for anybody to get into a rhythm in the first game of the series. Brandon Ingram shot 6 of 17, Jonas Valanciunas shot 7 of 21 and C.J. McCollum shot 9 of 25 in the 110-99 loss.
These are the best players that the Pelicans have to offer and none of them got any separation at all. This squad still has a chance to rally and keep the series competitive, but New Orleans desperately needs to get more creative offensively.
Don’t expect any of those three aforementioned players to continue having poor outings, either. There is a reason why they made it into the playoffs after all.
Paul Guides Suns
We have seen the Phoenix Suns win games because of their depth, chemistry and leadership. That was on full display yet again during the last matchup.
Three players broke the 20-point mark in their last game, but none were more impressive than Chris Paul. The veteran point guard dropped 30 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and three steals on the Pelicans in Game1.
He ended with a +20 on the court and dropped 19 of his 30 points in the final quarter. Phoenix doesn’t look like they are going to slow down anytime soon and that’s a scary thing for every team in the West.

Pelicans vs Suns Prediction
The odds are heavily favoring the Suns by 9½ points right now in the sportsbook. It may seem like a lot, but with the way that the Suns have played lately, it’s likely that they are going to cash out here.
First of all, Phoenix is better than the Pelicans in almost every statistical category. Game 1 also showed what would happen when the Suns played physical defense and New Orleans wasn’t prepared for it.
Game 2 could be a little closer, but Phoenix should win this game at home and cover the spread. The Pelicans don’t have the depth or star power right now – especially on the interior – and it’s showing.
Go with the Suns for your NBA picks in this one.
