Boston Making Move in Atlantic Division

Bruins Dominate Original-Six Rivalry

The Montreal Canadiens host the Boston Bruins on Monday night for a matchup of Atlantic Division rivals. This rivalry has not been very competitive this season and the teams are not close in the standings.

Boston enters Monday night with 81 points and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division. Montreal has managed to rack up just 43 points, good enough for last place in the Atlantic.

Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and NHL odds for Bruins vs Canadiens. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.

Bruins Bolster Defense With Lindholm Deal

The Boston Bruins have gone on some deep Stanley Cup playoff runs in recent seasons, but those runs were usually made with defense. Boston has had to change up its strategy a bit this season, even though they are still giving up just 2.66 goals per game.

Boston head coach Bruce Cassidy summed up the play of his team by saying, “We don’t like losing.” The Bruins have now won four of their last five games and they appear to be peaking at just the right time.

The Bruins made a blockbuster trade on Saturday to bolster its defense, acquiring Hampus Lindholm from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for three draft picks, including a first-rounder, and two players.

Lindholm, considered the top defenseman on the trade market, agreed to an eight-year, $52 million contract extension and figures to play on Boston’s top blue-line pairing.

On offense, Boston is scoring right around three goals per game and has converted on the power play nearly 25 percent of the time. David Pastrnak leads the team with 33 goals and Brad Marchand has a team-high 35 assists.

The Bruins are playing some terrific hockey, and that spells bad news for the Canadiens.

Canadiens Can’t Get Any Stops

The biggest problem for Montreal this season has been a lack of defense, and that has killed the Canadiens against the Bruins. Montreal is allowing 3.77 goals per game and that just isn’t even close to being good enough to get it done.

Special teams’ play has really hurt the Canadiens as well, as they have killed off just 74 percent of their penalties. Montreal is scoring on the power play just 14 percent of the time, and both of those marks are among the worst in the NHL.

Nick Suzuki has had a terrific season for the Canadiens, but he just hasn’t gotten a ton of help. Suzuki leads the team with 17 goals and 29 assists, but Boston will be looking to shut him down on Monday night.

Bruins vs Canadiens Head-to-Head

The rivalry between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens is storied, and there have been some great battles through the years. This will be the third meeting of the season between the Atlantic Division rivals, and Boston has had Montreal’s number up to this point.

The Bruins have won each of the first two games, outscoring the Canadiens by a total of 10-3.

Bruins vs Canadiens Prediction

This has been a frustrating and disappointing season for the Montreal Canadiens, and it’s hard to see things getting any better on Monday night. Boston comes to town desperately needing two points and the Canadiens won’t be able to do much to stop them.

Sometimes NHL betting online can be tricky or hard to predict, but don’t expect that to be the case in this matchup. Boston is clearly the better team on paper and will also be the better team on the ice.

Montreal still has plenty of pride to play for, but pride isn’t going to help put pucks in the net. Head to BetUS Sportsbook and take the Boston Bruins -1½ as they win this game by at least two goals.

Pick: Boston Bruins -1½ (+110)
