Flames Win Two in Row
The Calgary Flames trailed 2-1 after the first three games, but back-to-back wins in Games 4 and 5 has the Pacific Division title-holders jumping out in front of the Stars in this best-of-seven series.
The Flames stunned the Stars 4-1 at the American Airlines Center in Game 4 to level the series 2-2. They edged the Stars 3-1 in Game 5 at the Saddledome on Wednesday night to take a firm grip on this series.
The Stars didn’t make it easy for the better part of the first two periods. Although the Flames scored early, the Stars held them to a 1-0 score until Andrew Mangiapane scored the Flames’ game-winner in the third period.
Mikael Backlund got the Flames going with the game-opening goal. Trevor Lewis scored an empty-net goal to cap Calgary’s pivotal win.
Jacob Markstrom was solid between the posts, stopping 20 of 21 shots. He has had to play his best in these playoffs because his opposite, Stars netminder Jake Oettinger, has been remarkable too. Oettinger stopped 29 shots for Dallas as Calgary kept up the pressure relentlessly.

Stars Face Must-Win
The Dallas Stars have punched above their weight class throughout this series, but they’re down 3-2 3-2 and facing certain elimination at the American Airlines Center on Friday night if they lose Game 6.
The Stars had the momentum after wins in Game 2 and 3, but they allowed the Flames to wrestle the advantage away from them.
In the first three games of the series, the Stars managed to keep the Flames’ offense in check and the score low. However, the floodgates opened in the last two games as the Stars have allowed seven goals while scoring merely two in response.
Oettinger has been great, but he can’t do it all alone. He needs more help from his defense. As well, the Stars’ offense needs to take some of the pressure off by scoring more goals.
Fully aware of what has to be done in game 6, the Stars look to feed off the home crowd and bring momentum and a full 60-minute effort into the do-or-die matchup.

Flames vs Stars Prediction
This is the point in a playoff series where real contenders distinguish themselves and create separation from the pretenders.
Across betting online markets, the Dallas Stars weren’t being taken seriously. They were disadvantaged in every single game and in the overarching series. But now they have a chance to show everyone what they’re really made of.
If the Stars are legitimate contenders, then they’ll win Game 6 and force a fascinating series finale in Calgary over the weekend. Which would be epic, make no mistake.
Calgary has been the bookies’ darling of this series. Now, with one win from booking their place in the second round, the Flames will be keen to get the job done on the road. Tempting fate on a Game 7 with a dangerous floater such as Dallas could be tantamount to disaster.
All told, this is a right toss-up for NHL picks because the momentum has oscillated between these two teams pretty evenly. Perhaps, the Flames should win as the odds suggest. However, the Stars could win despite the odds and that’s worth a flyer here.
