No. 8 UCLA Kicks Off Season
Both the Sacramento State Hornets and the UCLA Bruins are hoping to get their seasons started on the right foot but only one probably will.
Sacramento State finished with a record of 11-18 last season and now has a new head coach leading the team into the campaign.
Meanwhile, UCLA won 25 games last season and made it all the way into the Sweet 16 during the NCAA Tournament.
The Bruins lost some big players but they obviously recruit well. Anything but a huge win and covering the college basketball odds here would be short of expectations. Are they a good bet online?

New Coach, New Hope
Sacramento State made a splash move (by their standards) in the offseason by hiring David Patrick to become their next head coach.
He was an assistant at a few different programs and even a former head coach that led UC Riverside to their first winning campaign in a decade.
Patrick will be coming in with six new players added into the mix moving forward. The best returning scorer is Zach Chappel, who averaged 11.6 points last season.
Callum McRae could wind up being a major contributor straight away as well. He was previously coached by Patrick at UC Riverside and is coming off of a season in which he averaged 10.8 points and 7.9 rebounds.
He is likely going to be the man in the paint for this squad that’s hoping to start off hot. Nonetheless, this team figures to be overmatched in this one, so keep that in mind if you’re making your college basketball picks.
Does UCLA Still Have Enough?
While it’s probably not a concern for their opener, it’s something to think about longer-term: do the Bruins have enough for another national title run?
UCLA will be monitored closely in this season opener to determine if it lost too much talent and if it can reload.
On paper, it is looking like the Bruins will be more than ready to compete once again. Head coach Mick Cronin has a record of 68-30 with the Bruins, including a 40-17 record against teams in the Pac-12 Conference.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. is also returning to the squad after trying to join the NBA before coming back to UCLA. Jaquez averaged 13.9 points and 5.7 rebounds last season.
Aside from Jaquez, the Bruins are bringing in two five-star freshmen that can step in right away. Amari Bailey and Adem Bona are the guys to watch, ranking ninth and 16th.
Also, Will McClendon and Mac Etienne are both returning from their knee injuries also. UCLA is already looking strong.

The Hornets and Bruins are going to be an interesting test for one another. However, the odds in the sportsbook have the Bruins listed as massive 25½-point favorites coming into this one.
