LEC fans mention heavy discomfort on Season Finals ticket selling situation

The 2023 LEC Season Finals tickets were available from July 12th around 10am Central Time, and as expected by many in the community, they were almost immediately sold out. It might seem like a success story at first, however many fans complained about the lackluster ticket-buying process, mentioning it was flawed on many levels.

Via social media platform Reddit, one fan stated that he was extremely prepared for the ticket sale, immediately waiting for the page to open at 10am CT as announced by Riot Games. Nevertheless, when they clicked on the sales link the queue was around 15 minutes long, which of course meant once the fan was able to get in all the tickets had already been sold out.

Fan via Reddit post:

I can’t even support my team in my OWN country. I was 12 seconds late and it was enough. What is this? Why is it scuffed like that? At least give information for people to plan ahead. This is disgusting,”

A couple of instances of this situation happening is extremely common within any sort of event even outside the esports ecosystem. However a plethora of LEC hardcore fans commented on the post stating they experienced the same outcome. Most of the community believes a massive amount of scalpers might have bought as many tickets as possible in order to re-sell them later at inflated prices.

Most event websites have measures when it comes to situations like this, even limiting the amount of tickets a single person can buy within their account. Nevertheless it seems Riot’s webpage did not have any ruleset in place, further fueling the rumor fire within the European community.

Fans immediately proposed several solutions such as named tickets, however issues quickly started to come up, for example if the buyer couldn’t attend the event the ticket would go to waste. Ultimately the ticket selling process for the LEC finals left many European fans unsettled and now they will have to watch their favorite teams from their couch.

The LEC finals will feature 2 teams that are able to conquer the now feared Group Stage, which features a total of 8 organizations: Team Heretics, Team BDS, KOI, G2, MAD Lions, Excel, SK Gaming, and Fnatic. The Group Stage will be broadcasted as usual from the LEC offices starting July 15th with Group B clashes.

The 2023 LEC Season Finals themselves are set to run from September 8th to the 10th and will be hosted within the Sud de France venue in Montpellier, France. A massive LAN Setup is expected for the finals, with the LEC teasing via social media a little bit of what’s to come.
