Almeria: Back in La Liga
So, after a Saudi takeover helped propel them back to La Liga, Almeria pushed the European champions, Real Madrid, all the way in the season opener before losing, 2-1. Then, after seven seasons away from the top-flight league, it was less than seven minutes before the minnows scored against Los Blancos. That was earlier than anyone had done against Madrid in 15 years. They were unable to secure the one-goal lead, conceding two times in the final 30, which was indeed expected, given the quality difference between the two sides.
Also, after earning their promotion to the top-flight league, Almeria managed to maintain their core while also spent $25m on six players during the summer transfer window. Almeria have continued their efforts to construct a La Liga-level squad, adding Barcelona 19-year-old left-back Arnau Sola. Arriving via a free transfer from Barcelona, Sola was impressive in 11 occasions for the ‘B’ side this season. He had also made seven appearances for Barcelona in the UEFA Youth League.
In last game, Almeria did earn their first point of the season, 1-1 draw on the road against Elche. Rubi’s men now aim to take positives from that performance, trying to win their first La Liga match in eight years. It will be very tough to beat even a wounded Sevilla. Sevilla: Poor start
In the previous three seasons, Sevilla finished fourth, narrowing the gap to the big three in the standings. They’ve lost integral players, including Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos, who did contribute greatly to Julen Lopetegui‘s success. Sevilla suffered their first defeat in the 2022/23 La Liga campaign at the hands of Osasuna in Pamplona in the season opener. Manchester United full-back Alex Telles started for Sevilla, though former Real Madrid playmaker Isco Alarcon was not part of the squad as he gets back into shape.
Sevilla failed to beat newly-promoted Valladolid. After two rounds, there’s just one point and a 12th-place position in the standings. Sevilla were dealt a massive blow, winger Jesus Corona has suffered a broken leg and ligament damage to his ankle while in training. After losing Kounde (to Barcelona) in the transfer window, Sevilla did move fast, trying to find a replacement. FC Bayern reached an agreement with Tanguy Nianzou and Sevilla on a move for the 20-year-old center-back to the top-flight Spanish club. The transfer agreements include an option for the German record champions to bring him back to Munich.
It’s not easy backing Sevilla right now, if you’re betting online. Maintaining a title push for large portions of last season, then trailing Real Madrid for the majority of the term, Sevilla ended on a disappointing note, eventually dropping to fourth place. They’re nowhere near their best football at this time.
Almeria vs Sevilla Head-to-Head
Sevilla and Almeria played one another quite often. That was before the hosts found themselves relegated to the second tier. Between 2010 and 2015, Sevilla managed to win seven of their eight La Liga fixtures against Almeria, covering the spread only thrice. However, last season the two met in the Copa del Rey, with Sevilla dominating the entire match and winning, 1-0. Lucas Ocampos scoring the winning goal.
