Game of the Week Potential
Prior to the start of the MLS season, New York City FC and New England Revolution were among the betting online favorites to win the title. They still are, but neither is sitting atop the odds board. Here’s why: the Citizens are sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, while the Revs are seventh.
That doesn’t change the fact that this is a must-watch game. Some consider it the Game of the Week. After all, they put on a great show in last season’s Conference Semifinals. Los Angeles FC vs Los Angeles Galaxy is the other contender.
Let’s check the latest soccer news, stats, injury reports, and MLS odds for New York City vs New England. We’ve plenty of soccer picks and predictions for you to consider.
New York City FC Aiming for the Top
New York City FC has four straight games without winning. Five if we include the match against the New York Red Bulls for the Quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup. The thing is that they didn’t lose either, at least not in their last two games.
Last Sunday, they drew 2-2 to Atlanta United, while one week prior they drew 4-4 to CF Cincinnati. That’s why a victory could boost them up to first place. Being the top-scoring team in the East also has a lot to do with that.
Precisely, the Citizens’ attacking unit, led by Valentin Castellanos, is the main reason for you to consider including them in your soccer picks, especially at -160. Castellanos has scored 10 goals, enough to share the league’s top scorer recognition with Jesus Ferreira (FC Dallas) and Sebastian Driussi (Austin FC).
The defense also deserves some credit as they’ve allowed 19 goals. Only two other teams, the Philadelphia Union (13) and Columbus Crew (18), have allowed less.
Last but not least, the Citizens have been considerably better when playing at home. They own a 6-3-1 record at Yankee Stadium. On the other hand, they’re 2-2-3 when playing on the road. Their lone home defeat was against the Union (2-0).
New England Revolution Getting Used To Not Losing
After a rocky start, the coaching staff of the New England Revolution made some changes and things started to get better. Now, they’ve 11 gone straight games without losing, allowing them to fight for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Also, they can equal the longest single-season unbeaten run in club history, having previously gone 11 straight without defeat in 2019 and 2005.
Last Sunday, they drew 2-2 to CF Cincinnati. Dylan Borrero and Gustavo Bou were the scorers. Bou is the team’s top scorer with four goals. Well, technically, the team’s top scorer is Adam Buksa with seven goals, but he no longer plays for the team. Help is on the way, though. The Revs recently signed forward Giacomo Vrioni from Juventus.
“Giacomo caught our eye with his recent goal-scoring success in Austria and came highly recommended by some truly outstanding people in our sport,” head coach Bruce Arena said to the press.
Yes, he’s going to need some time to adapt, but signing him sends a clear message to other contenders. The Revs aren’t giving up.
Back into Saturday’s game, they’re offering a +400 price in the sportsbook. The Revs aren’t used to being the underdog, which means it could end up being an extra dose of motivation. For the bettors, it means that $100 could turn into $500 (total payout).

These two already collided in 2022, but it was in the Round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup, which means that the best players from both teams didn’t play. New York City FC ended up winning that game 1-0 with a goal from Santiago Rodriguez.
Their last MLS meeting was last season’s Conference Semifinals. The game went to overtime and finished 2-2. Then, the Citizens won the penalty shootout 5-3. Regarding the regular season, the Citizens have won only one of their last five meetings with the Revs.

New York City vs New England Prediction
We’re talking about teams with an offensive mentality. While the Citizens average 1.9 goals per game, the Revs average 1.6. Besides Castellanos and Bou, there are Carles Gil, Talles Magno and Sebastian Lletget. Therefore, you can expect goals, enough for me to recommend you include the over in your soccer betting ticket. Not so fast, though, as the draw, which I believe will be the result, is offering a better price.
Score Prediction: New York City FC 2, New England Revolution 2
