Both Determined To Bounce Back
Last week, as expected, the New York Red Bulls lost to the Los Angeles FC. Atlanta United also lost, but that wasn’t expected as Toronto FC was at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
The Red Bulls sit in fourth place, so there’s no reason to panic. However, another defeat could make them fall to sixth. They come in as the soccer betting favorites, but the visitors are in a must-win situation, at least if they want to keep the playoffs hope alive.
There’s no NFL Thursday Night Football, but MLS is here to save the day.
New York Red Bulls Aiming for Two Titles
Yes, the Red Bulls lost 2-0 to the Los Angeles FC, but keep in mind that they were kind of exhausted after facing New York City FC in the Quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup. That game, which they ended up winning 3-0, was four days prior to their trip to Hollywood. Now, the Red Bulls are the favorites to win the domestic cup title.
Regarding MLS, they owned a 2-4-2 record when playing at home. Not the best, but they’ve scored nine goals in their last three matches at Red Bull Arena. Prior to that, they scored nine times in 13 games. Defensively, they didn’t allow a single goal in their last two games. In other words, Red Bull Arena is starting to make a difference.
Lewis Morgan is another good reason for you to consider including the home side in your soccer picks. He has scored seven goals, enough to lead the club and rank fourth among midfielders in the league this season. He has played seven matches against Atlanta, in which he posted three goals and two assists.
Last but not least, the Red Bulls, who are offering a -145 price to win straight up, haven’t lost consecutive games since last August.
Atlanta United Needs To Improve on the Road
If the Five Stripes want to fight for a spot in the postseason, they must start improving their numbers on the road. So far, they’re 1-1-5. Their lone victory was against DC United, the team sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
Most recently, as mentioned before, they lost in Toronto. The match ended 2-1. Curiously enough, Atlanta won possession with 57 percent. Luiz Araujo, who’s having a great season, scored Atlanta’s goal. Araujo has been involved in the team’s last three goals, scoring two and assisting in the other.
“We have to improve defensively, and offensively we have to score more goals, but those are the things we’re trying to do and we hope that we can show it in this game. The Red Bulls have a lot of quality to be able to press but just like any team, they also have their weaknesses. So we’re focused on what we need to do,” Araujo said in an interview.
Despite their poor record, the Five Stripes scored in five of their previous seven road games, including the last four in a row. That and the +375 price that they’re offering in the sportsbook makes them a tempting underdog. There’s also the fact that this will be Josef Martinez’s fourth game after coming back from injury. Once he regains full confidence, which could happen any day now, Atlanta will become an even more dangerous opponent.
