It will be a very long summer for many players on the roster. Portugal play three additional Nations League matches this month before their break resumes. For international head coaches, there are effectively just 31 days left to drill their teams before the World Cup. This current international break in June is crucial for coaches looking to try new options or work in new players on the squad.
Ronaldo will expect to return to his starting spot Sunday. Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes’s spots are likely safe, but Jota’s return after his Champions League final exploits could see him join Ronaldo and Rafael Leao in the final third. A poor Swiss start
The Czech Republic beat Switzerland, 2-1, at the start of Nations League Group A2. An own goal sealed the Swiss defeat and, in a group with Portugal and Spain, Switzerland aren’t making life easy on themselves. They are now big favorites to be relegated to the second tier. They must have an unexpected result on the road against Portugal to sustain their Group A spot hopes. Switzerland did make it to the semifinals of Euro 2020, before losing on penalties (Spain). They secured automatic entrance to the World Cup after a strong qualifying run.
Benfica’s Haris Seferovic, Wolfsburg’s Kevin Mbabu and captain Xherdan Shaqiri were all benched against the Czech Republic, but we’re expecting them to start against Portugal. Switzerland missed many clear-cut opportunities, recording 13 first-match goal attempts and seven shots on target. They also had the possession. It was a long season for all the players, and you saw that on the pitch. Many of them are affected by this international break, because they should normally be on vacation right now. So, tired legs and lack of focus will be the main problems for the Swiss against Portugal. If you’re betting online, make sure to fade them.

Also, Portugal scored at least twice in seven of their last eight home games, while the Swiss allowed two goals in each of their previous two fixtures.
