King of Kings
Last season, Real Madrid won the Champions League. On the other hand, Eintracht Frankfurt won the Europa League. Both did it against all odds. Now it’s time for both champions to collide in the UEFA Super Cup and define who’s the king of kings.
As expected, Los Blancos come in as the betting online favorites. However, the UCL holders lost 20 of the 46 editions. Additionally, this will be only the second official match between these two, the first in 62 years, so you don’t want to miss it.
Real Madrid: Away from the Spotlight
Believe it or not, Real Madrid stayed away from the spotlight during the last transfer market. Los Blancos only signed Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni. They tried to sign Kylian Mbappe, but the 23-year-old preferred to stay at PSG.
Why didn’t they sign another promising young striker for a gazillion dollars? Well, lack of money had something to do with it, but also that manager Carlo Ancelotti said he fully trusts the squad that won the UCL and La Liga when no one gave a dime to them.
There’s no need to feel bad for them. We’re talking about a roster that includes Karim Benzema, Thibaut Courtois, Luka Modric, Vinicius Junior, and Eden Hazard, to name a few. Speaking of Hazard, the Belgian could be considered a reinforcement because last season he practically didn’t play. He has promised to Real Madrid fans that they’ll see the best of him in the upcoming season. Wednesday’s game will be a great opportunity for him to start delivering.
Los Blancos finished the preseason with a 1-1-1 record, four goals for and three against. Most recently, they defeated Juventus 2-0 with goals from Benzema and Asensio. Last season, the Frenchman scored 44 goals in 46 games in all competitions. He’s the main reason for you to consider including Real Madrid in your soccer picks. You know, besides the fact that they control the odds board thanks to a -230 price.
Don’t expect any changes from the team’s last official match, which was the UCL Grand Finale against Liverpool. That means the new signings will have to wait on the bench. Finally, the coaching staff has no major injury concerns. That’s something Real Madrid struggled a lot with last season.
Eintracht Frankfurt: Feisty Underdog
Eintracht Frankfurt winning the UEL was a shocker, but the most impressive thing was they didn’t lose a single game. The Eagles became only the third team to win the continental tourney without losing a game from Group Stag to the Final.
Daichi Kamada (five goals) and Rafael Santos Borre (four goals) were crucial for the team’s success. The front office made a tremendous effort to keep them both. As if that wasn’t enough, they also signed Jens Petter Hauge (AC Milan), Lucas Alario (Bayer Leverkusen), and Mario Gotze (PSV), which makes them a much more balanced team.
Unlike La Liga, the Bundesliga has already begun. Frankfurt started on the wrong foot after losing 6-1 to Bayern Munich. Some stars, including Kamada, didn’t play, meaning manager Oliver Glasner was already thinking about Real Madrid. In other words, there’s no need to panic.
“We’re all very much looking forward to facing Real Madrid, one of the greatest and most illustrious clubs in the history of football. We want to prepare so that we have every chance of winning the match,” Glasner said during a press conference.
The German side is offering a +625 price in the sportsbook to win straight up. That means you could turn a $100 wager into a $725 payout. Considering that last season they became experts when it comes to pulling off stunners, that’s a very tempting deal.
Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt Head-to-Head
As mentioned before, these two have met only once. It was in the e1959-60 UCL Grand Finale, which Real Madrid ended up winning 7-3. It was kind of unfair as Los Blancos had Ferenc Puskas and Alfredo Di Stefano, two of the best players to date. That day, Puskas scored four goals, while Di Stefano scored the other three. In other words, it’s revenge time for Frankfurt.
